Post subject:  OME 927's/Frankenlift

I'm officially waiting on my Frankenlift. 8) Heather said the 927's are "standard" in the front, so thats what I told her to send me. I never knew for sure, but I thought the 926's were standard. I dont have a winch or ARB bumper. I have this nasty habit of second guessing myself, so I'm asking you guys that have these coils. Since we're waiting on Daystar, maybe I'll change my mind before they build my front struts!

Do you like the 927's or find them too stiff and how do they compare to stock (assuming your not carrying a winch or ARB bumper)? Or if you got the 926's, how are they?

What's the wait down to these days....? I ordered on the 3rd, and they said three weeks. That's this Friday then. I can't wait....

I like the heavy duty springs. A little firmer than stock, but ride nice. Definitely corners flatter.

I like my heavy duty springs. The KJ now rides like a Cadillac compared to my old spacer lift.

BTW, no bumper or winch for me either.

I have had Rough Country lift now for about a year, and was thinking of replacing it with a frnkenlift due to cv angles. If I were to do that would I have already caused damage to the axles, within that year because I am getting some thumping from passenger side.Would the frankenlift fix that or is it to late

If you are already getting some noise then chances are good that the damage is done. The Frankenlift also provides a goodly amount of lift so I doubt it would drop you down enough to help. :?

I kind of had the same thinking as you when the Skyjacker lift blew out one of my CVs. I installed the Frankenlift only to find the noise was still there and I ended up replacing the passenger side anyway. My advice...if you do switch lifts then just replace the CV at the same time.

so even if the angle drops a little more its not going to fix it because the damage is done? That sucks. How easy is it to install the franky? Thanks for your advise

If the OME 927's won't support the CRD's, how are they supposed to support a 3.7 with an ARB and a winch? (aprox. 200lbs.)

Ive always wondered that?

Is there a way to tell what springs we have if the little tags are gone? I can see the part number on the strut, but I cant find one on the spring.

Well techinically they don't. Look at most KJs with the ARB and winch and you'll see some serious sagging. You'd need a very light bumper and removable winch to avoid this.

So then, those of us with an ARB & winch are basically in the same boat with the CRD's waiting on heavier lift springs, or geting a set of stock CRD springs to use a spacer lift.

Hey Nick, how are the Rusty's HD coils holding up under that load? I'm sure the Frankenlift does alright, but I'm speaking in general terms here. It doesn't seem like there's anything on the market that stands up to the weight of the ARB over time.

After 14 months they're sagging too. I fear the winch will have to be removed soon if I can't come up with a solution.

Ok, someone please explain to me how one 2" lift differs from another. Someone said in the post earlier that they are switching from a Rough Country to a Frankenlift due to CV angles. I don't get it. would not all 2" spring lifts affect the angle the same. I am so LOST! LOL

The main variables with a spring lift are the weight of your KJ and the spring rate. When it comes to spring lifts the manufacturers can really only estimate a height because they can't account for the weight of your Jeep or the accessories you've added. Here's another bit of info just to confuse the issue even more...some lift heights are based on the 2002 model which was .75" higher to begin with (so a 2.5" lift for a 2002 could mean 3.25" for a 2006, but they should basically end up at the same final height). :P

Spacer lifts should pretty much always give the same amount of lift because they aren't affected by the above variables. So in that case the 2002 and the 2006 NET the same amount of lift, but the 2002 ends up higher by .75" Confused yet?

so... which springs do recomend for someone without an ARB or winch or CRD.

For the Frankin lift that is.

I have 2 years and 17,000 miles on my stock springs with Rustys OTT style spacer and they have not sagged at all.

Are the lift springs lower quality than the stock ones.

The standard spring for the Frankenlift is the heavy duty one. That's what I have and it is great. I don't have a bumper or winch.

The aftermarket springs are just as good as, if not better than, the stock springs. In fact, you'll find there are only a handful of spring manufacturers that make springs for all the retailers. So there is a good chance your aftermarket springs might be made in the same factory as your OEM springs.

With the OME HD rear springs, my kj does sag more than it did with the stock springs. My boat has a tongue weight of 230lbs, it seems to sag about 1 1/2in. If I hang on the spare it drops about 1/2in(150lb). Idk about the front.

Surprisingly, No! I get all of that. Now what I need to know is how do you tell what the spring rate for each lift is. Do they state it in advertising? Can you get that info from the manufacturer? Is there a recommended spring rate or is it subjective? And finally, I know everyone is in love with the Frankenlift, and I really would like one as well, but bugetwise, it is not possible for now, is there a second unanimous favorite? Can I use OME springs, Rancho shocks, and Daystar hardware and make my own Frankenlift? Input...input...input...LOL

Some retailers will tell you the spring rates, some won't. No, there's none that's recommended...that's why some lifts come with three different choices - soft, medium, hard. It's up to you and depends on your needs. You can put together your own frankenlift, but one of the main benefits of buying it from Boulder Bars is that you don't have to deal with spring compressors and strut assembly. Finally, the Rusty's full coil lift is probably your next best bet. It is an excellent lift at about half the cost.
