Howdy all,

Would someone with a Mopar transmission skid plate installed on their KJ rig be willing to take rough measurements of the skid plate for me? I have a gasser and I'm looking to install one on a 2004 KJ, but I want to make sure it will work before I plunk down some money. Thanks in Advance!!

Fitment is a small issue, protection is a bigger issue. When it folds it actually works as a damage multiplier... don't even get me started on MOPAR trans skids.

Bro if your gonna spend the change on skids dont go Mopar they are crap. A skidplate should be able to hold up to some HARD hits thats what they are for. Everytime I see Mopars they are bent to hell.

Guys,

Thanks for all of your comments. It seems that the only skid plate I can find, other than Mopar, is Skid Row. Skid Row is just too pricy compared to the Mopar. I realize you get what you pay for, but is there some other skid plate that isn't crap that falls in between the Mopar and Skid row prices?

Thanks again!!

I don't think the Mopar Trans skid is all that bad. Yes, I have taco'd one, but to be fair, it was given some pretty serious abuse. Have beat the snot out of it (first one, new one has only a few trips on it) in the AZ rocks many of times, and it lasted almost 2 years. Plus, I don't mind spending $50-60 to buy a new one. Better protection than nothing and at a fraction of the price of the Skid Row skid. Aren't they running $300+?

Rob, I don't have the measurements handy, but I do know (from my own search) that there's really only a couple variants. One fits the very early 45RFE auto-trans gassers and the 2005-2006 CRDs and the other fits pretty much everything else. The new ones you'll buy from mopar will likely fit all except the models with the (5)45RFE transmission. Some years have a little angled blot tab in the front and some don't, but I don't think it'll prevent it from fitting.

I mean I guess the Mopar skids would work for your average wheeler. They are better than nothing
