I bought my Jeep used. Is there some way I can find out services/recalls that were performed on it?

I am particularly interested in lower ball joint replacements. Would these still be covered under the recall? If they have already been replaced once will Jeep replace them again? I have 130K miles on the Jeep and, of course, it is lifted.

Any idea of the cost to have them replaced? I had rather not have to fool with dangerous spring compressors and trying to press the old ones out and press the new ones in.

Go to Jeep.com you can enter you vin there and it will tell you if you have any open recalls. If you got the the 'For Owners' section and sign up it will tell you all of the services that have been done since your Jeep was new (provided they were done at the Jeep/Chrysler dealership) You can also request a build sheet on your Jeep.

Be forewarned though that not all Libertys were covered under the recall only ones sold in certain parts of the country.

I'm also the second owner of a Liberty ('05 Renegade). I cotacted Chrylser Cutomer Care about the lower ball joint recall at 1-800-853-1403; they needed my VIN, and told me replacement of my lower ball joints were covered under the recall. I asked if I could have my local dealership install the Moog greaseable ball joints, as I'd already purchased them. I was told yes by the first rep that I spoke with but after contacting three dealerships and being told that they couldn't install any parts other than Jeep/Chrysler replacements; I made another call to Chrysler customer care and spoke with another rep. I was told that I could either return the ball joints that I'd already purchased and have a dealership install stock replacement parts (which had already been done once by the previous owner) or I could pay to have the Moog's installed, and send a letter to customer care, and hope to be reimbursed. I paid to have the ball joints installed at a local Midas, then I wrote a letter to Chrysler customer care saying that I'd paid to have my lower ball joints replaced while they were under recall, along with copies of my reciepts (even though their rep told me send the original reciepts). For my records I also made a copy of the letter that I sent, and a copy of the envelope with a cancellation mark on the stamp (one of the perks of being a US Postal Service employee). About a week after mailing the letter I received a call letting me know that I would reimbursed, and that I would receive a check in upto six weeks. Two weeks later a check arrived for a check for the entire amount of parts and labor.
All of this, however, was before my Liberty was lifted. To be on the safe side I would give customer care a call, and have them run the VIN to see if you are eligible for replacement of the LBJ's under recall. If the previous owner had the LBJ's replaced under recall you are still eligible, according to what I was told by Chrysler Customer Care. I personaly wouldn't mention that you're lifted...
The Moog greaseable lower ball joints (part #K3199) cost me $60.99 each at Advance Auto Parts, and the installation cost me $276.42 at Midas.
I hope this info is of help to you.
