Ok I have a 06 crd with ESP
1. What tcase will bolt up with few problems
2. Is it going to mess up ESP. I would rather disable it.
3. I've heard of the rubicon case being used but it's backwards. Is there anything you can do to reverse it.
4. I don't want a real expensive case just would rather have 2wd, 4hi and lo

All your help will be appreciated

with the rubicon case, the stick stays in the vertical position for 2wd, and all the way flat(normal position with 242) for Low. Other then that, i dont know much, but i dont think there are many issues with swapping.

1. pretty much any unibody and post CJ jeep Tcase....although it may be clocked a little off and you'll have issues bolting up driveshafts.

2. the transfer case has nothing to do with that stupid PCP junk - that's just tractin control BS...it can control the brakes and the motor....nothing to do with Tcase, luckily. No idea how to disable it...I would find out ASAP if I were you!!

3. ???

4. What's wrong with your Tcase?? What makes you think you need to swap a new one in. If you have the 231 you have the best Tcase you can get...the 242 is not bad either. Go wheeling in a rubicon before you consider a 4:1 Tcase....gearing is everything, but throwing a 4:1 Tcase in a liberty with stock gearing and slightly oversized tires ain't gonna help you with anything.

If you want to make your KJ more offroad worthy, lock the rear axle, and if you've got bigger tires, get lower gears. If you were running 35+" tires (which definitely wouldn't be advisable on the stock KJ drivetrain) and 4.56 gears, the NP242 with it's 4:1 low range would be a pretty sweet setup for you.

You have the 242 select trac t-case since you have a CRD.

A 231 command trac t-case from a KJ will work, will need different driveshafts and shifter. The RockTrac t-case(Rubicon case) will also work, again will need different driveshafts and shifter.A AtlasII will also work.Eitherway will you will need different driveshafts(or yours modified) and a different shifter.

no experience with the crds but doesn't it push the 31s just fine? improved mileage over stock? you could lower the gears a tiny bit....I would go with gearing the axles rather than a new Tcase.

I know for the 231 you can get a 4 to 1 kit for that transfer case....not sure on the 242. but your current tcase is doing it's job getting power to the front and rear axles just fine....why not make the axles better!! lock them up!!
