Well I changed both front CV shafts and front hubs today and all is fine until I put in 4WD and I get a deep click and clatter from front end. I used NAPA reman shafts and replaced intermediate shaft also. The wheel bearings are Timkens. I can find nothing wrong with anything including front driveshaft neither end. Rechecked everything and retorqued all fasteners. Any ideas? |

Wouldn't think so I've never had a problem with any of them but?? Remove one side , try it and then the other and see what happens Can you get it up on jackstands and run it to see and try to pinpoint which side? |

Seems like rt side but new intermediate shaft and cv,only get the noise in 4wd not 2wd and only at certain speeds coming up my drive. Any thoughts? Safe to drive this way or get 2 new cv's and try again? Also how can I run it with one or the other cv out wouldn't it sling oil out of front drive? |

jack the front end up and rotate the tires until you an find out where the noise is coming from. Does the clicking increase with engine RPM or with speed?? Sure you have the Tcase engaged properly?? Is the clicking coming from front end or the Tcase? |

Clicking sounds like front end not tcase. |

Didn't do it before you swapped in the new CVs? Front driveshaft ( rear ) boot OK ? |

No noise like this before CV's had a bearing type howl before and now the noise in 4wd only and some vibration very slight when accelerating in 2wd,but no noise in 2wd. |

Dude, Im right where you are... left side is brand new almost all around. I honestly think my hub is giving out already. If not your NAPA quip may be true as two CVs havent solved my issue. (3 actually, got an advanced auto one with a torn boot ) Gonna try to get a new one on this week. Keep me up, I will you.

Keep me up, I will you.OK jacked up and checked it is coming from left side and I can't make it do it on jackstands. It will not do it in 2wd or without pressure against it in 4wd. It sounds like a cv with no grease or a very loud clicking clacking noise. I also noticed that the steering rack boot beside the right tie rod has oil leaking out of it. So not one problem but two. What is the best place to buy a rack or any other suggestions? Help please or the jeep is leaving my abode. Thanks |

Look carefully at the front drive shaft CV joint. Where the front drive shaft attaches to the transfer case output. If it is bad, check ebay. A new CV for about $80 delivered and its a snap to install. |

That happened to me once, the snap ring in the passenger side cv was machined in the wrong location. The result was every time I was in 4wd or turned hard left in 2wd I would get a Clicking/Pop sound It was the CV shaft popping out of the inner shaft and rattling. |

Napa remanned? Why would the snap ring groove be moved? |

Hmmm, Seems to me the intermediate shaft has a detent ring. Are you sure it completely seated into the inner CV assembly housing? The intermediate shaft/CV set up on the right hand side can be a source of lots of strange noises once you have some lift on the Liberty. BTW, do you have a front locking differential installed? I have an Aussie in the Dana 30A and it took a a little doing to get the intermediate shaft and right side CV to stop thunking. In any case, seems like your noise is lots worse than that. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, I've had better luck with the cheap aftermarket CV assemblies from GPS. Maybe they’re a bit shorter and maybe bind less. My Lib's front stands 22" from wheel center to fender skirt lip. This is approaching the lift amount where CV difficulty is expected. How tall is yours? |

I noticed you run Treadwright Guard Dogs. I've had those on for the past 35,000 miles and I'm real happy with the offroad performance. On the road they're OK. Now that they're getting well worn, they howl like 4 screaming b*tches! I have an employee with a lifted and locked Toyota Tacoma and we run trails together pretty frequently. He runs high dollar BFG MT T/A KM tires. I've been impressed with the Guard Dog's ability to keep up even though its a super aggressive AT and not an MT tread design. |

OK, I need to check again but I though my noise was in 4wd turning only... does T-Case sound right. Guy looking at it said this |

Been alright with them, kinda wish I got smaller ones.... but that will be fixed with wheels though Arent they MTR clones in a way? M? |
