Can I just say this forum is brilliant - picked up some great ideas thanks :D

I'm planning to do a fairly long trip covering both hard bitumen road and beach sand terrain very soft in some parts. I want to take along some spare parts such as belts, hosing, filters etc. Can anyone suggest the most important parts that i should have in case something breaks??

Thanks guys - will definitely have that gear. I was thinking more in terms of engine parts and access's that are common to break ie. hoses. Any thoughts?

The chances of engine parts going bad are small compared to everything else that could go wrong. If you're engine and cooling system is in good working condition, then you don't have much else to worry about. Just make sure your trany fluid is fresh with an aftermarket trany cooler. I'd throw on the Mopar Heavy Duty Fan Kit (Mechanical and electric fan combo). Make sure you have a good working alternator and battery. I'd check your ball joints, air filter, PCV valve, Spark Plugs, axle seals, and CV's.

No problem, I'm glad that I could help. How many miles are you planning to cover during this trip?

Wagon tongue. I always break those and get stuck waiting for weeks to find somebody that has one to trade.

The trip is about 700 miles return but includes stretches along soft sand and hard corrugated roads.. There are service areas in the vicinity but I don't really want to be relying on others :o

Where you going?

I want to do a Southwest trip:
KY to Phoenix, AZ to Tuscon, AZ possibly Pasadena, TX and then back to KY

That is 4,018 miles round trip. Pretty sure I'd have to do a lot to prepare for that.

@dieselenthusiast - i'm about to purchase Pirelli Scorpions - heard they're a good all-road tyre for road and sand (which I do a fair bit of driving on). What have you got?

@blackwidow - looks like you'll need to prepare more than me! That's a big trip.

I'll post some pics when i'm done :D

I run 245/75/16 BFG, good tire long lasting and good for everything. Used them for a 2 week trip to Baja about 2200 miles, not much for spares, no problem.

I've got the Firestone Destination A/T's. They are affordable and seem to do their job in many types of terrain.
