Post subject:  U-joints, which to choose???

Since lifting the Libby, I noticed a slight vibration from rear train when applying throttle from complete stop, lasts about 2-3 sec then it's gone. I suspect the u-joint to be put under more stress caused by differential standing lower. Besides, should be a good idea to replace them, as part of regular maintenance.

My problem now stands with ordering them... Rockauto offers a wide choice, but I am a bit mesmerized by the part description, where it mentions: "Exc. Man. Shift-On-The-Fly Transfer Case"

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=1432225

Aren't all KJ equipped with manual shift-on-the-fly transfer case? Why the exception, then? Does not make any sense :dizzy:

Hey hey you again,i changed mine 1 month ago, since the !%!$ dealership change only one and it broke right away because of the other one seized up,so i went with
precision super strenght greasable number 280,two of them,21$ each, you grease them every 5000km,you will never have any problems.

If you want non-greasable you can go with super strenght number 269.

For sure some here will say go with the spicer ones, you can get them for around 30$ each, but my precision ones are more than enough, and they handle our torque easily. :D

By the way both u-joint are the same on our crd,so dont worry,i did so many checks about that, the numbers i gave you are the good ones, i measured them, and even talked to the fed mogul guy

Your local parts store should carry them, they are from federal mogul, and one advice,CHANGE BOTH!!!

Stealership :furious: Would not trust them any farther than where I could throw them...

BTW, thx for the numbers. I did call Fed Mogul and the tech was quite surprised about my query, actually mentioned this was the first time someone called him with this question (shift-on-the-fly thing). He was only able to tell me the recommended part # (all 369 or 369/354 combo)...

Since you've had first-hand experience with this, I'll follow your advice... Thx again!
