I just bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited. It seems to have everything in it. It is actually nicer than the Mercedes I traded in for it.

There are two switches on the driver's side knee bolster. I don't see anything in the owner's manual on them, I assume that they are aftermarket, but the installation is done so well they look stock(at least a lot better than what I have done in the past). I was wondering if anyone knew what these would be?

Also, my cigar lighter doesn't charge my phone. I know, the manual says that I shouldn't use it for that. But, I see no reason why I would use the cigar lighter. Is there any way of bypassing the electronic component that will be damaged if I use it for that purpose?

There are no switches in the knee bolster from the factory so your must be aftermarket. Unless you are talking about the Roof light bar switch which is the only factory switch that the US models got that isn't on a stalk (but it really isn't on the bolster either). :

see left switch here:

as for the cigar lighter, why not just charge your cell phone with the Aux power point next to the cigar lighter? It stays hot all of the time where as the cigar lighter is only hot when the key is on.

My bad, they aren't on the bolster, they are on that panel you showed.

I know, right? I got this jeep because I work in road construction and driving on the jobsite was giving it a beating. Plus I have a cabin in the woods with a driveway so steep it has two switchbacks. I got tired of parking at the top of the hill and walking down.

I am hoping one of these is the ejection seat.

First, welcome to the board! Check out the "Northeast" section as well.

If that's up to par, I must be a professional, lol.

I put these in for my lights.

They are definitely aftermarket.

That panel comes off very easy, just pull on it, see if those switches are wired to anything.
Also the actual knee bolster folds out easy as well. Just grab it from the gap under the steering wheel.
Might be easier to trace the wires.

Good luck!

It looks a lot like heated seat switches.

Here is my installation.

Used different switches, and they're for my auxillary lights.

Here's what's behind the knee bolster.....

Did all the work myself.
