I put a new set of pads and rotors on my 06' liberty. it immediately started squeeking from the driver side front. since then I have had it apart a few times, rotated the pads, cleaned and greased everything (liberally) etc. it usually shuts up for a day or two, then comes right back. This last time I noticed a small groove (~1/4" wide) that's starting to wear on the outside of the rotor, about 2" away from the outboard edge. I allready replaced the hardware kit, including the little retainers that go between the 'ear' on the pad, and the fixed bracket.

I know its not the ceramic content of the pads. this is not a normal squeek. Sometimes it's quiet, sometimes its loud. seems to quiet down a bit after driviing for a while. When it's really bad I can almost hear a little "metal to metal contact" mixed in with the squeel. (<if that makes sense?)

I'm fresh out of ideas. anyone have some insight?

thanks, Kyle.

I had the same problem on my old Nitro. Had them apart several times before I finally just replaced all the little rattle clips that the pads clip into. Problem went away. I think one wasn't holding the pad tight enough allowing it to vibrate and make a constant squeal while braking.

....seriously? I've never heard of this.

an I replaced the little spring clips once, it didn't help. I thought maybe one of those was touching the rotor.. Which would explain the squeeking, metal to metal, and the groove. As far as I can tell it'd not.

^^ X2 ^^

Same thing has happened to me. Not with the Jeep but with other cars. Finally replaced just the pads and it went away.
