Post subject:  I've searched extensively, keyway lining up question

Hey everyone. I'm doing my lift and brakes this weekend and about to get to putting the top strut plates back on. What is the trick for making sure they are lined up correctly with the keyway? Do they have to be perfectly at a certain point? I feel like I should have marked something before I took it apart.

Thanks!

Oh we like pics don't we?

Keyway?
On the lift?
If you are talking about the raised portion on the front shocks then yes has to be installed the right way or it won't fit back in
Yes whoever installed them should of paid attention to how they came apart and when they compressd the new springs installed the shock the same way

Please get a picture of what you mean by the keyway? Hopefully that will help some with everyone figuring out what you are talking about.

It the raised line Tom is talking about. I'm the one that took it off. I just had the biggest fail moment ever....

I was loosening the top shock bolt and accidentally tightened it and over torqued the shock. Now the shaft just spins around when I try to loosen it. khbsajhkdfglkjbds

You should be able to grab the bolt itself with a pair of vise grips and turn the nut with a wrench. Or if you have access to air tools you can hit it just for a second with a impact wrench. I would suggest trying the wrench and vise grip first.

Got it with a vice and wrench. I am using air tools though.

It's incredibly stripped. I got a new KYB shock and its totally different. This lift is not going well.

Got 2 more new shocks and got it built. Going to put them in today. The biggest problem is going to be getting the brakes off as they are rusted on to the hub.

Spray them heavily with some wd40 and hit ti right around the hub with a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet. It should loosen right up if not then take a real hammer to it and hit it in and alternating pattern on the edge then hub and so on so on.

The current problem. Why is this so off? With the uca pried all the way down to touching the springs, and the lca jacked up to the point where my jeep is starting to come off the jackstands, it just barely get through the hole. Not even enough that the threads are showing.

Got the passenger side control arm reconnected. Do not know the torque specs though.

Just torque it until it feels rather tight but i think it is like 65 ft-lbs. And jack placement is everything when it comes to doing a lift. I use a 20 ton bottle jack when i do mine and i put it as close to the lower ball joint as possible.

I bought a KYB (excel-g) and returned it. I was excited that it didn't have the keyway, but I didn't like that it had slightly less travel.

kskj: I searched hard for this color. I wanted a diesel in jeep green and actually found one. I opted for the gas though because it was optioned better.

I did the daystar. My plan is to get as much out of the stock springs as possible. I really just wanted to try this lift out too. I hear so much back and forth about it. Another reason I did this lift is I wanted some practice taking everything apart and learning the car. If I like it, I'll recommend it to people that post on here asking about budget lifts. Eventually I'm going to replace with with a diy franky.
