I installed new shock this week and have been trying to hunt down a thunking noise when going of bumps in the road. I know everyone here has aftermarket shocks and would like some advice on where you guys think I should look. I have changed the sleeves in the shocks to one what is just the right size for the bolt, I have tightened the bolts down as much as I can, and I have spaced them so that there is no play whatsoever. Still, the shocks by Deutsch Tech (8000's), aren't exactly the quietest shocks out there...atleast compared to the ones they are replacing. Any idea what could make this thud sound. It is only coming from the right side of the car so it has to be something I missed. Any advice would be appreciated.

All I can suggest is make sure there are really nice and tight. They may look tight and may not move any when you pull on them, but sometimes it will still bang. Hand that on my Racho RSX's when I first put them on along, with some new shocks I installed the another KJ. Make sure you crank them down pretty good.

we had to really crank those shocks tight on my kj when we put the shock on that came with the rusty's lift. they were really loud.

just make sure those things are super tight. throw the recommended torq specs out the window!

Did the sleeve you put in extend the full width of the upper shock mount?
I had to cut the long set of sleeves down to fit the width. No problems in over two years now.

My Ranchos have thumped like this since day 1. I've tried everything I know of, even tightened them down with an air wrench...they still thump. So I say screw it...they obviously are not going anywhere so i will live with the noise. seems to be much worse in cold weather though.
