Good Morning,

I have see on this site someone that runs with a detachable winch at the front of his/her's KJ, please can I have some info about it?

I might be looking to fit one as i don't want to be running around all the time with one on as I might only be using it once or twice a year max. Normally when I go offrading, I am in a group so there are others that have one, but the odd time I go on my own, it might be a good option to have one.

Thank you,

Fil.

They have a front hitch and a winch cradle I know warn makes the cradles and someone just started making the hitches again. Just search for the hitch on google and warns website has the winches already in the cradles for sale.

I want someone to come up with a removable plate idea for use with the backbone. to me that would be perfect. proper position, super strong mounting point, removability.

the biggest concern about using the front mount hitch and a winch up there is it's really low. so if you're wheeling and nose into a ditch, guess what you just buried your winch! it's also limited in strength to the hitch pin you use, and it's not a good idea to have much if any kind of side pull going on with it.

Sota,
thank you for point this out. I thought so much, but for the time I am going to use it i guess it will be more than adequate. Yes if I end up nose first in a ditch I might well have a problem. My KJ is lifted so that will help a bit (maybe not that much once I have added 50Kg up front). Still i have to see if I can find one over here in the UK, otherwise it's back to plan B normal Backdone most probably a Detour one.

Just don't install it till you need it or need the cargo space. And if you nose dive into a ditch you will need it to be rear facing then. And you would have the capability with the porta-winch.
