What are some of the pro's and con's of both that may not be evident to a newbie? Like I mentioned on an earlier thread, In the Army our humvees where full Independat suspension. I would like to think if SFA's where superior that they would have went with a setup that boasted that.

I'll start with a few:

IFS PRO:

Smoother on-road ride
Tighter steering possible
Less body motion offroad (cabin stays straight, wheels go up and down. With SFA the whole thing moves)
SFA PRO:

Typically higher ground clearance
More aftermarket parts available
Easier to lift
Can handle more torque (I'm guessing that a solid axle is stronger than an IFS setup)
Cheaper!
