I have noticed that everything works great in 4 All-Time bit when i go to lock it into 4 Part-Time and low it will lock then when i turn or it starts to slip it unlocks and gives me that plasticy grinding sound. i have all linkage there is to be checked, fluid is new and level and no leaks anywhere i cannot think of what it might be i have never really done any hardcore offroading with it so i dont have any idea what it could be. any info would help. |

Are you turning on blacktop/anything hard when locked? That will kill it. |

That will cause wind-up and do damage to the T-case. Try putting the tranny in park, turn off the ignition, and move the t-case shiffter into 4 low, start'er up and see what happens. Just some advice by no means am I any sort of mechanic !! |

I don't that would have done any real damage. I don't recommend doing it but you get binding all the time when four-wheeling on stuff like slick rock (which is not slick, grippier than pavement) You should hear the tires chirping when you try to make a turn on slick rock. Always the inside rear tire that chirps. |

the only time i have ever had it in any 4 wheel drive on pavement is in the snow and it has been in full time. when i was trying to go up my friends driveway i was using part time for the extra traction and it started slipping in the snow and as soon as it started slipping a little bit it sounds like a manual transmission if it pops out of gear under load and then that plasticy sound... i really want to figure this out a i am afraid of doing anything with the 4 wheel drive. would over full of fluid do it? when i left for oklahoma i topped it off but everything worked alright before that trip. |
