Post subject:  Question about Lift components...

Quick question chaps; I've got the OME stuff on order and it should be here in about a week - thats' 790 front springs, 948 rears and the new OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks.

I'll be building the front shock assemblies before installation - it's not practical for me to take the OEM fronts out and cannibalise them for insulators and top mounts, so I was looking at Rockauto's page as they do their prices in sterling and charge VAT (that's a purchase tax) before they send the stuff out - considerable reduction on paying it at the importation point.

My question: they list both insulators and top mounts by Moog, KYB and Sachs - the Moog top plates are about £3 more expensive than the KYB and the Sachs about £9 more than the Moog; the insulators all cost about the same; what would people here recommend between the three?

As a side point, I'm ordering the JbA 1/4" top plates to go on top - should be enough for me: do you think I should also get the Teraflex front bump stops and hockey pucks for the rear? I ask this because OME say that extended stops are unnecessary because they have them built in, but I tend to the cautious!

I have read the lift FAQ, but am I missing anything?

Moog, not sure on the rest but I trust their parts
True if you are using OME shocks then you "don't have to"
but bumpstops also help in making sure tire do not not hit flares when flexed depending on what size tire you go with
Plus they are just a little insurance as well

Lancer,
We will want to see pictures once lifted.
For the back if you want bump stops, I have them sitting in my shed at home bought from JBA as I ended up fitting Hockey Puchs as I lifted more than 2 inc (might need to add another one as I get some slight rubbing in the inner arch).

Hi Fil

As you've got them, I'll buy the rear stops from you :D Pm me and we'll arrange it when its' convenient for you.

As for the lift - I can replace the rears - it doesn't look too hard (famous last words) but having seen the procedure for replacing the front - that's going to be a dealer job. I park in my street and I don't have access to a garage and I REALLY don't fancy doing that replacement in my street, with the traffic we can get and (very probably the way this year is going) in pouring rain!

I will take pics when its done and post them up here.

I'll be sticking with the 235/70 R16 tyres - the size is handy, and I'm happy to see space above the tyre when the lift is in, and I don't want to add more to the unsprung weight than is already there; I don't want to get toward regearing territory either!
