| Post subject: | Squeaking Shocks |
Hi every one, looking for some advice here. I have the Rockfather II lift and it came with the Doetch Tech rear shocks. They squeak like crazy and it's making me nuts. I tried WD40 and Silicone, but they still do it. I at first thought they were loose, but all the bolts appear to be tight. I can only keep the radio volume cranked up for so long to drown it out. Please Help!! Thanks!! |

I've got the same shocks and have posted about the SAME problem. It's quite annoying I know, but I just take a little (maybe a lot ha) of WD-40 to every single nook and cranny where the shock mounts to the Jeep........drive it around for a bout 5 minutes and the squeek goes away. I've had to do this twice, and I've had my lift for about 5,000 miles........if WD-40 hasn't worked then I don't really have an answer for you sorry. But at least you know you are not alone!! |

I have posted about this topic also: the DT8000s in my Rockfather ll were getting noisy so I swapped them out for Ranchos after 1 1/2 years. So far, so good. |

On a related note, I have a 2005 Renegade (stock suspension) that makes noise when it articulates now. It's not really a squeek, but sounds EXACTLY like when I compress the front shock on my mountain bike. I notice it when I go over speed tables (long speed bumps) or when I start up a garage ramp or in/out of a parking lot, really any time the road pitch changes drastically and the front suspension compresses. I suppose I would notice it offroad, too, but there's a lot of other noise offroad. Is there something I should be greasing under there? |

To me, that sounds like your sway bar bushings. |

I soaked the shock mounts with WD40 and drove it around a bit and for now it is quiet |

Pixeldzn suggested silicon spray, which I happen to have a bottle of already, so I'll give that a try first. Thanks |

Silicon spray will work, but not for as long as Lithium grease. |

Thanks Silicon spray will work, but not for as long as Lithium grease. Actually, here's an interesting question: What is included in a Lube, Oil, and Filter change? Obviously the oil (and air?) filters, and a few new quarts of oil. But whcih parts actually get lubricated? |

Nothing but your butt...the KJ's do not have any grease points...well unless you have MOOG ones or Al's Upper A-Arms... |
