Only a few options for the KJ............... Front your limited to the Detriot TrueTrac(best LSD on the market),ARB air locker, and I've heard some electric locker fits(not 100% sure). Rear you have the Detriot TrueTrac,Detriot Locker, and ARB. Some will say get a lunchbox locker(powercrap or aussie) but there pretty much junk and will only work in the rear.I ran the DTT in the front and ARB in the rear and loved that combo offroad here in CO and in MOAB,though I had to give up the DTT when I went to 35" tires so I now run F/R ARB's. |

Doing it "right" is going to require carrier replacement, so you should probably do 4.10s while your in there. True tracs will run ~900 total for both, figure another $700 for gears & master install kits. I paid to have mine installed, was $350 for the rear axle and $525 for the front. Brought the total project to ~$2475 all said and done for yukon gears. |

Eaton E Locker also fits in the front, see tjkj2002 "not 100% sure" note above. My Detroit Locker in the rear and E locker in the front with new bearings, all in including tax was $2,500.00. And yes, while you are in there spend the extra for the 4.10's, only additional cost will be the gear sets. Lockers will completely change the off road personality of your Libby. |

ARB. It's nice having open diffs for everyday driving, then when you need traction you just flip a couple of switches. |

Can you still drive in full time with no ill effects? |

remember TrueTrac's are limited slip - yes - I can drive in Full Time - no problems - Wet/Dry and any combinations. steering is a little heavier than normal and if it's only slippery in spots you can feel the torque steer as you hit sticky/smooth spots none of it's a problem - but you will notice it. (only issue I've every had was due to the 242 and mismatched tires - it wouldn't engage part time or 4low - only Full Time worked) |

I've gone through two DTT's in my Liberty with a 242.... shredded both of them, now moving on to a Eaton E-Locker. Both DTT's were under warranty and where installed by two different shops since I thought they were the problem. I'm getting pretty good at pulling my front Dana 30a out and back in..... From day one on the first DTT, the steering was very heavy, then it started to slightly engage when going around corners, then finally clunking noises coming from inside the Diff over every bump in the road. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Once I pulled the front drive shaft, everything stopped and drove normal. Second shop said there were some old DTT part numbers that were of a lesser quality.... so i said sure, that must have been the problem. Second DTT did the same thing but this time I pulled the drive shaft immediately until I had time to pull the axle out again. I never drove it in Part-time or Full-Time on the street, just in the dirt, gravel, Oregon mud and some snow. I figured that the DTT would outlive the Dana 30a. That's just been my experience. All I can think of is that my 242 is having issues and maybe applying some front drive line pressure to make the DTT start to engage or something. |

I was at the bantam fest where I ran into one of 4 wheel parts jeep gear guys. He seemed very knowledgable about gears and even libertys, he told me that he felt the DTT was too light duty and recommended a front locker that could be turned on or off. The E Locker is ok as long as the tire size didn't exceed 32". After a long conversation with him, I think I'll be putting an E Locker in the front and a Detroit Locker in the rear with 4.56 gears and 32" tires. Still looking into other set-ups though as its going to be awhile before I have the cash.

There are, well were,2 different DTT's that would fit the KJ's D30A,old style being 2 worm geared and the new style being 3 worm geared. One old style and one new style and both needed ring gear bolt spacers since both DTT's are drilled for 7/16" ring gear bolts and the KJ's D30A uses 3/8" ring gear bolts.Installer error is most likely the cause for your issues with the DTT's.I ran a front DTT for 3 years with zero issues and pushed my KJ hard offroad but made ring gear bolt spacers when I installed the DTT.My old D30A with the DTT is still alive today in a CRD.Had a slight increase in steering effort but nothing drastic and I rather liked it returned to center much more quickly then when it was open. |

Thanks for the Input TJKJ2002. I read your reply and called the shop doing the E-Locker install and who did the second DTT install and talked about the spacer issue. He said that both the first DTT and the one they installed had ring gear bolt spacers as recommended by Eaton. At face value, that does not appear to be the problem. From the tear down, the shop reported that the worm gears inside the DTT were shredded, which I could tell by the metallic look of the gear oil when I drained it both times before removal. Forgot to ask if it was a 2 or 3 worm gear design. The shop is busy, so they said it will be next week before they get to the E-Locker install. This time however i took them the intermediate shaft and both CVC shafts to make sure that everything lined up and looked ok internally. Though it couldn't hurt. |

I just figured heavy steering meant extra wear, but I shouldn't be driving in full time very often anyways |

Did I get some bad info when the guy told me the DTT has a little slop in the gears and if I were to get stuck and rock back and forth the gears would break. My original plan was Detroit soft locker rear and tru trac front. |

dieselenthusiast wrote: Ted15 wrote: he recommended a front locker that could be turned on or off. ARB We actually discussed ARB, also eaton's whole line. He seemed th think that the e-locker should limited to 32" or smaller tires. Personally, as far as the DTT goes, I've seen quite a few people have pretty good luck with the DTT. But yea, ARB blows every other selectable locker away and if I had my way I'd take it to 4WP tomorrow and have 4.56 gears, 32" tires and ARB lockers installed. All it takes is money huh. Digger's got DTT's front and rear with 4.10 gears and he seems to like the set-up quite a bit

I saw a picture if one in a 4WP mag and it looked just like a Detroit locker. The ad said that they redesigned it so that it isn't as noticeable when turning. |
