Hi,

quick question please, has anybody fitted ASFIR transfer/gearbox protection to a KJ 3.7? I know it will fit a CRD 2.5/2.8 but I am not sure if it will fit a 3.7 V6 due to the CAT being in the way, anyone tried?

A freind is looking to buy the Transfer/gearbox one for CRD 2.8 auto and fit it, but before purchasing one would like to know if it fits. ASFIR now only show one for the CRD and not for the 3.7 V6 on the site.

Fil.

Hi Ryn7
I do to have one fitted to my CRD but ours are not 3.7 V6 so i am not sue if it will fit to a V6 because of the exaust down pipes of the engine. Does anyone know?

Ya good question Fil.
I'll ask Tony on Facebook and ask if he knows anybody with a 3.7 litre V6...

Ryn7,
I got the answer today, "No they won't fit",due to where the exaust pipes pass near the cross member holding the engine up. Actually also the New Mopar ones won't fit a 2003 KJ 3.7 V6 as it bangs against the exaust pipe that crosses over.

Can anyone suggest a good transfer skid that will fit a 2003 V6 KJ? two freind of mine are looking for one or does anyone have a good design with measurents so that we can fabricate them?

Thank you
Fil

Fil, I put the Mopar transmission skid on my 2003 petrol KJ. There is a slight clearance issue on the left side at the exhaust cross pipe but it is a simple modification. A few whacks with a 3lb hammer at the offending point, some black engine enamel to prevent future rust - voila! Protection for the gearbox! As for the transfer case...I don't think there is any difference between the CRD and the 3.7L gasser.

The skid comes with NutZerts if needed.

Hope this helps your research.

Bob

as far as it goes the Mopar skids available now it's for a 2005/7 but for any model before 2005 Jeep had the clever idea to change the cross bar holding the gearbox up so the attachment points don't line up. Also as you pointed out, saddly, you must pound the skid down to be able to fit it to a Petrol V6 due to the down piper from the exaust passing very close to the grearbox support and not leaving enough space to clear proparly. In a CRD you don't need to as the down pipe passes away to the left (or right depending with way you are looking at it) and there is a lot of space/clearance from the skid and a special space made for it.

Fill, I did purchase an '05/07 trans skid for my '03 and was able to fit it.

Besides the "3lb hammer mod" I also had to drill two holes and install the supplied NutZerts in the front crossmember and the transmission crossmember. Really a rather easy mod considering the benefits. Requires a good, sharp drill bit and maybe a helper to hold the skid plate while you mark the spots for drilling, the aforementioned 3lb hammer, some engine enamel and that's about it. And the hammer only needs to make about a 1/4" scallop to give you clearance.

You can make the '05 skid work on '03 and CRD models.
