Neutral, as in theres nothing connecting your wheels to your motor

You would use neutral ("N") when flat towing your Liberty behind an RV or other tow vehicle. It disengages both axles (front and rear) from the transmission via the transfer case so they freewheel. It may seem counter-intuitive but when flat towing you keep your transmission in Park while your T-case is in Neutral, which lets the wheels spin but keeps your transmission from being damaged.

The reason for wanting/needing to have your transmission in park, while flat towing, if I'm not mistaken, and the transfer case in neutral is because the transmission's front pump is not being turned by the engine, and because the pump is not being turned the internals of the transmission are not being lubed, and would result in destruction of the the trans in short order...If I'm wrong on this; please feel free to correct me...I like knowing the why, that goes with the how...If that makes sense...LOL
