Post subject:  Rocky Road Outfitters 2.5" OTT Spacer Lift

I installed this lift a couple months ago and have been offroading with it since. I have had absolutely no problems with it installed. The only problem came with installing. The directions tell you to use a coil compressor for the front struts to put them back in after the spacer is added. After three different compressors, I found that it was near impossible to find one that would fit into the Liberty's strut. After five days of trying to find one that would fit, I decided to drop the front A-arms, but do not completely remove them. Unscrew the front most bolt first. Then only loosen the back-most. The arm will drop enough to put the strut back in and re-assemble everything else. I should have done this from the start. As for the back, disconnect the shocks and let the rear drop as far as it will go (it will not hit the ground as long as the back is jacked high enough). Do not take the spring out. Wedge the spacer in by having someone else holding the spring up. This lift is cheaper than others (around $200) and is designed and built by Liberty guys who run them on their own Jeeps. www.rocky-road.com

Some have had major problems with this kit hitting the ball joint.... others have been fine. Looks like it is working well for you. Great!

Nice set-up and thanks for the A-arm tip.

I have the same size tires on mine (Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 245/75/16. Did you use any special tools in installing the OTTs? The coil lift seems to be more complicated to install for the Do-It-Yourselfer, especially for my skill level - or lack thereof. So, I think I will go for the spacer lift instead. I am thinking of getting the RRO Combo Kit. Any other tips?

I went with Rusty's space kit, which is pretty much identical to Rocky Road's, and had the same problem with the lower a-arms. The coil spring compressor was useless, so I did the same thing. Took loose the lower a arm bolts. They had to adjust/re-torque them when the front end was re-aligned anyway.

I would still rather do lifts on 5 more Wranglers rather than ever do a Liberty again... :D

Keep in mind there is a huge difference between the RRO OTT kit and the Combo kit. I have 3 OTT kits in my shed that we have taken off KJs. Please keep an eye on your ball joints and struts with the OTT kit. This kit has been a real problem The RRO Combo kit has been outstanding for many guys. Sometimes you pay a higher price for a cheaper kit in the long run.. Good luck with the OTT kit. Just be sure to keep an eye on the parts mentioned. Later...clint

The Combo kit looks just as complicated to install. You should have an air compressor with an impact wrench to remove and tightened all bolts. You have to have a grinder to grind down two of the bolts on each strut. The other two bolts have to be removed. I found this extremely hard on the right strut as the bolts would not come out with a sledge hammer. I finally had to grind the bolts all the way down and drill through the rest. As for the left, I placed the entire strut in a clasp and then used a sledge hammer to remove the bolts. I don't know if the right would have worked if I put it in a clasp from the beginning. I've never done anything like this before. Luckily my dad had a lot of tools and helped me get the job done. If I can do it, so can you. Good luck!

The Combo kit install is similar, but you don't have to alter the original strut bolts, because the top spacer is quite a bit thinner. If you decide to uninstall the Combo kit for some reason, you just reverse the installation steps. To remove the OTT kit, you may have to replace those bolts.

Congrats on the lift, let us know how it works out over the long haul.
