At the weekend, I was reversing slowly with the flipglass open (stupid) and hit an obstacle. Glass undamaged, straight dent about 2" long above the right hinge on the bodywork; the right hinge itself however, was bent out of shape. I couldn't straighten it so I looked for a new one. Not surprisingly, no dealer had any in stock and the hinges would have to be ordered. I found a Jeep breaker who was breaking an 03 KJ (3.7)- I have an 05 CRD, and he sent me the hinges - £60 including quick courier. The hinges on my 05 are steel with plastic covers, and plastic forms between the steel and the glass. The hinges from the 03 are plastic - well the bit that screws to the bodywork is steel but the flap that screws to the window is molded plastic. The bolts are the same. Am I likely to have any problems? I assume that the glass of the 03 and 05 models is the same - and I must say it is bl**dy heavy! I'd be grateful for any views. If I have to order the steel ones I will, and just wait for however long it takes to get them. |
