Post subject:  Cooling Fan Issues

Over the last two days ive replaced the radiator, radiator fan and radiator fan relay. The fan still does not come on when the engine gets up to and over operating temp. It does come on when the ac is turned on. Im at the end of my rope here :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :furious:.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Thermostat? The thermostat turns on the fan when the antifreeze temp gets hot. If it's not functioning correctly, the electric cooling fan will not turn on when it's supposed to. I had this happen with one of my previous vehicles. I was fine as long as I was driving down the highway, but when I'd hit traffic and idle (without the breeze thru the radiator), the coolant temp would climb.

(I posted this for you in the General Discussions area too.)

??? Does the thermostat have a sending unit? I dont understand how a mechanical thermostat would send a signal to the fan???

I imagine it's like the thermostat in your house. When the temperature reaches a certain level, the mechanical spring flexes enough to make contact and complete an electrical circuit (which turns on a furnace, or in your case the cooling e-fan). I haven't changed out one of these myself, but here is a diagram from Morris 4x4 Center that shows what it looks like and where to find it. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-cooling-system-parts/liberty-kj.htm The thermostat is in the lower right of the picture.

I did some more research, there is also an electronic coolant system sensor on the intake. Im going to prob go ahead and replace that as well as the thermostat unless someone else has another solution.

Ok yall can laugh now (guess I didnt get it hot enough) ran it today and pulled the trailer to deliver a stove. And after a couple of short trips back and forth it came on. But the guage has never moved past the halfway point the whole time, in fact its setting in the same spot it was when the fan wasnt working.
Anyhow its fixed :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:
