Post subject:  Spacers to low down automatic trasmission and transfer case

Hi everybody

After getting to a +4" lift by jba I need to low down the trasmission to have the original pre-lift angle of the drive shaft to eliminate vibr and saving u-joints and yokes.

I know that this spacers are available for jk, do you know if I can find something similar for my KJ?

Many thanks

Tom woods makes good driveshafts I plan on getting one after my lift sometime. I think diggerfreak has one on his jeep.

Don't need or want to lower the trans or transfer case with 4 inches of lift
if you did it would throw the front driveline off since you'd be tilting the transfer case/trans down lower
SO, You're good

Since i put the Y link extension from the 4" lift kit by Jba for me it is important to re-create the original angle of rotationof the drive shaft. It is not necessary to low by 4", 1,5" it will be enough. Any suggestion where i can find these spacers?

Tom woods is to expensive for me AT the moment and to let it arrive in Sicily is expensive, too

Again spacers are not needed for a four inch
you'll be fine at 4 inches
The bracket from JBA just spaces the tri link so its not on such a bind and if you installed it right then no issues with the angles of the rear diff.
Again if you drop the trannsmission etc you'll mess with the angles of the front driveshaft
I've ran mine several thousand miles at over 4 inches and no issues

What it never happened, it can happen in one time :goink:

I am concerned about it because since I lifted the KJ, from 0 to 15 m/h, I have a vibration that more miles I have been driving and more I can feel it. If the KJ is in an uphil I can feel stronger.

To install the y link it is not a big issue but there is not doubt about it that angle of the rear drife shaft is 4" down the original set.

Now I understand your idea and experience but nothing less do you know if this spacers are available on the market? It is not my idea but the Meccanico want to do so

None that I know of are available for the KJ
The problem is again if you lower them you will have issues with the front drive shaft throwing it off.
Are you sure that your problem is not worn u-joints or something else ?

On Monday I will remove the front drive shaft and than the rear to see if they are damaged or something else. Or wich one of these is causing this vibration.

My mechanic checked the u-joints of the rear drive shaft when he installed the y link and, he says, they were ok.

It is very frustrating when you realise after spending thousands of euros it was better to leave everything how it was.

Did he remove the rear u-joints? If not they can appear to be tight but are rusted almost solid or that is what we have found here.
Vibrations can come from many areas and when you lift one you have changed a lot of different things

Yes you are right we found the rear u joint rusted. But we also found out this:

As you can see th slip eliminator yoke kit it is not working in a optimal position. I expressed my self in wrong way. My mechanic is going to spacer o drop down only the rear of the trasmission in diagonal way so the front of trsmission will not drop down as the rear and we can have a good result. I hope it will be as he says!

Figured you would find bad u-joints.
Good luck with spacing down the rear

Correct me if im wrong but if you drop the rear of the tranny the front will rise.

Yep plus place the front driveshaft at a different angle.

Ok guys the job is done!!!

Great result the vibration from 0 to 20 m/h is gone and no other came up after spacered the automatic shift and transfer case.

So, as it was my intention I have now re-establish the original angle of the rear drive shaft. As I wrote before I also change the u joints differential side.

I have the asfir skid plate so I needed to put spacered it, too. (pic. no 2)
I put longer bolts to fixed everything with the extra 1" spacer added.

And here is the result, I hope my experience will be useful for someone else in the future
