Post subject:  Getting the Frankenlift, now need to find good tires?

Okay I finally saved some cash and I'm getting the Frankenlift for my 02 Renegade 4X4, but I need to find some good all terrain 245/75-16's once my lift is done. I previously had stock sized Bridgestone Dueler Revo's but they have a very weak sidewall, I blew through 3 of those mostly doing desert offroading, I live in So-Cal...anybody know any good deals for 5 new A/T tires? Any good recommendations for desert type off-roading?

Maybe not an AT, but.....
MT/R's have worked great in any terrain I have wheeled them in so far. They have a real tough sidewall that holds up great in the rocks and sticks. Maybe not the best mud tire, but great all around. (how much mud do you really see in Ca anyhow?) If I had to go with an AT I would just go straight for the BFG AT's. I do have them on my 2004 KJ and they are pretty decent so far, quiet on road and good rain traction.

Okay, BFG A/T KO's look good, anybody know about how much I should expect to pay for a set of 5? (gotta have the spare too! )

about $134 ea including the rebate from Tire rack PLUS shipping to your location

Talk to your local tire dealer and make a deal with him - at least they can match the price - I asked my tire dealer and they did match it
Don't forget to ask them to have your balancing included - and free tire rotation too...

Several people around here have used the General Grabber AT2, and like it a lot. It's similar to the BFG A/T KO, but much cheaper. Plus I believe the 245/75/16 is an "E" rated tire. You can read much more about it in the Tire Section.

3 ply sidewall on bfg, if you are blowing out sidewalls on the revo's then you probably need the 3 ply... what you airing down to by the way?

Tirerack has a good deal on the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo and they rate them 1st and the BF's 11th. I have 2 sets of them (summer rims/ winter rims) and they are good.

My previous stock size tires (Bridgestone Dueler Revos) were not rated light duty or truck duty because they didn't offer it in that size, so I think that is why the sidewalls were getting sliced? I would air down very little if at all. Hmm...sharp rocks are bad.

my opinion on tires is to go MT they ar going to be better how ever rocks will kill cheep tires trust me i have blown a tire i less than 10 minutes and only about 100 yards down the trail but if you can find a deal for like $70-$80 a tire inc. m&b
than you could buy 10 cheep tires to only 5 good tires and if you blow out a $140 tire that like blowing out 2 $70 tires
so i go cheep and when i go out for a weekend trip i bring a loose spare and a few pry bars j.i.c. its like haveing 2 spares
but i leave on at the camp
just my .02

The Goodyears MT/Rs are in fact an all terrain, and the sidewall is very strong.

If you are doing anything in the rocks in that desert, I'd vote for those

Goodyear's version of MT actually stands for Maximum Traction, Not Mud Terrain. Although they are designed to do fairly well in Mud, they are meant to be an all terrain tire with a stiff sidewall and an agressive tread.

Someone onc posted here that Goodyear's "MT/R" actually stood for Maximum Traction-Rocks. I do not know if there is any truth to that or not. I do know that they are awesome, grip very well, have tough sidewalls, and are super heavy. I love mine.

From Tirerack.com - "The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R (Maximum Traction/Reinforced) was developed to meet some of the most punishing conditions found in America."

Google "Maximum Traction/Reinforced" ... that's what MT/R stands for.

Don't know if you decided on tires yet, but just wanted to share another option with you. Firestone Destination's. Either M/T or A/T. I have the A/T's, and couldn't be happier with them. Farily inexpensive (~$130 depending on size), nice tread, nice handling, and super quiet on the road. These were important factors to me, since even though I wheel, my tires see more asphalt than dirt. Plus, they will not fair as bad as an M/T R as far as gas mileage goes.
