Post subject:  05 Renegade - lift options

I'm new to the Liberty (and 4x4) scene. I'm loving my new Renegade. However, I want it to look a little more rugged.

Let's face it. I probably won't do that much off-road riding. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year at whatever I can find down here in Louisiana.

Is the 2.5" lift my only option? Is there a 1.5" lift or something else?
I just want to add a small lift with some 245/70R16 tires because it is my daily driver.

(I tried searching and I found some 2" lifts but they seemed to be for 02-04)

Thanks!

All lifts that will fit previous years will also fit '05s

A 1.5" lift would be a waste of money. Not sure if there is one out there unless it is just a hockey puck lift......hahaha! Go with 2.5" lift if you plan to off-road. There are some bigger lifts but........read the Rock Krawler section (too expensive and it is not working corretly).

I guess I'll have to go with the 2.5" lift. :)

I really just don't want to lose too much with fuel efficiency. I guess I don't really have a choice if I want a lift. :/

Are 245/70s too small for a 2.5" lift?

Rocky-Road Outfitters (RRO) has a combo lift that is around 2.125". This has been a real popular lift with people with goals similar to yours. Can always do a clevis lift (tech section) to give yourself a bit more boost if you want. Should be fine with the 05s but may want to e-mail Glenn to make sure.

Some people have had problems with RRO. They can be slow, they are a small shop and they have lots to do in the summer. I've used them 3 times and no problems, just be patient.

Fuel efficiency is more dependent on the tires you run than the lift size I would think. You could still run a 245/70 no matter what lift you go with (you could probably fit those even without a lift).

Revtek makes a decent 2" spacer lift. That would be worth checking out for your purposes.

I just bought 245/75/16 Bridgetone Dueler AT Revo Tires for my KJ with no lift (yet). As far as fuel efficiency, I've noticed a very slight drop in mpg. We were getting about 18-20 mpg in mixed city and highway driving with the stock 235/70/16 tires. With 245/75, we are getting 17-19 mpg.

The Revo tires have pretty aggressive threads. Bridgestone also makes the Dueler HT and I think also an HL model that have threads designed for more highway (on-road) driving.

Just my two cents.

(I will be getting the RRO Combo Kit soon).

So the 245/75s fit without a lift?

How would they look if I were to get the Rusty's 2.5" suspension lift? (I think that's what I'm going to go with eventually)

Old Man Emu makes one of the highest quality suspenison systems out there for the Liberty, with the best ride quality available. And it is only 1.5" of lift. Sounds like just the ticket, and a much better designed suspension that just a spacer.

You've gotta be rubbnig like crazy... I have the Duelers in that size with the Rusty's 2.5" and I still rub on the front wheel well at full lock. Does the fact that I have the MTs as opposed to the ATs make a difference?

So that's a pretty good estimation of what my Renny will look like.

I love that spray on lining. How much did that run you?

And... how long did you have the stock tires on before you got your Revos?

No, your first post was regarding 245/70/16 - 1" shorter than a 245/75/16.

I know, but the other guy mentioned he had the 75s. I forgot to quote him in my reply.

I'm thinking that I will go with Rusty's 2.5" and 245/75R16s.

I was just wondering how dumb it would be to do this in "stages."

With a 245/75/16 you'll want the lift to be the first stage. That would be an excellent setup. I think you'll be very happy with it.

But... how dumb does a 2.5" lift look with 225/75R16 tires? (in case I need to save up for a little bit)

You can see how my 2" lift looked with the stock 235/70R16 tires here:

and with 245/70R16 Dueler A/T Revos:

I see... it doesn't look too too bad.

Also, there is no way that I will be able to install this myself. I will have to call around to see how much installation will be. My other option is to take a road trip out to New Mexico and visit my brother. He's good with vehicles and his friend owns a body shopt. That way I can get lifted and do some wheeling. Maybe by that time, I'll have money for both tires and a lift.

Post subject:  re:

not a dumb as you would feel with banged up treads and wheel wells and the rubbing noise etc... I'm in the same boat as you...
If I can save enought to do it all at once I will but if not it'll be lift first, break tires and tell wife oops need new tires now too... darn!

I believe you are right. The MTs may have more agressive treads than the ATs. They rub at full lock. I should have gone with the lift first but the opportunity to by the tires just happen to come first. I can't wait to get the RRO Combo Kit. I just need to get more info to get comfortable in installing the lift myself.

Well, I got Daystar 2.5" lift, along with BFG AT KO 245/75/16, but final look will be the same.

Look at my Cardomain link below.
