I decided not to get them galvanized only because I am too anxious to put them on....and I would have to drill holes for draininage of the liquid metal. They do provide plugs for the holes, but I would have to take time off work to drop them off and pick them up two days later.

Primer all done and put the first coat of paint on today. Not sure why the spray can says "Apply another coat within the first two hours or after 48 hrs." Seems weird to me.

Here is a picture of them with primer.

The holes you see are where the poly strips attach.

They look really beefy, more so than anything else I've seen commercially available.

Who welded them and what weld process did they use? I'd like to see some better pictures of the welds.

I welded them, MIG. I don't have any good pics of the welds on the skink sliders, but here are some from the KJ rear bumper I just finished.

Rock Lizard, thats some fine looking stitching on those welds.

Okay, Lesson learned.

That plastic wrap underneath the sliders was a bad idea. After letting the black enamel dry, I laid the sliders on the plastic (this morning). I picked them up during lunch and the plastic stuck to the sliders and left pieces of plastic stuck to the sliders. Won't come off by rubbing with hand and the fingernail would take forever (and still not get it all).

I have to get some sandpaper and sand it off softly.

That'll set me back a couple of days.

Ugh!

You're just gonna scratch em in Moab anyway silly! Redo them after.

Yeah, I know they will get rubbed in Moab but it's only one thin coat of paint.

Tokyojoe,
That is a good lookin' bumper you fabed up! I am drawing up some ideas for bumpers for my kj and was wondering what is a good thickness of metal to use for a bumper? I don't want anything super heavy, but I want something better than the plastic.

This has probably already been covered but how does this design fit in with the trim on an '06 sport?

well you can look in the 4X4 section for Rock Lizzards bumpers www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=6814 or go to www.rocklizardfabrications.com and he has the specs on his site as well.

Painting is done. Turned out pretty good. Not to my perfectionist standards, but.....As Nanette mentioned, they will get scraped up.

Still wish I could've done the Galvanizing. Can't wait for Rock Lizards front bumper.

I'll get pics of the Skink Sliders today pre and post installed.

mOlson,
I don't think he has gotten to the 2005-06 rigs yet as I'm still waiting for mine. He said that he would have to modify them some from the original design. Anybody, buy the premium version with the wrap around tube added?

So... does this mean they've shipped? :) Because that'd be good news for me. I'm ready to get those suckers mounted!

Wow! I spent some time (6 hrs) getting these babies installed (not including drilling the holes - those were done days in advance). My holes were not lined up properly. I stripped one of the self-tapping bolts (didn't know when to stop cranking it). Tried to fix one hole so I could get the self-taping bolt in and made the hole too big.

Lesson learned. It is extremely important to make sure you have the sliders/rails/bars (any brand) placed properly so you can mark your holes (to the frame) and then to drill them right the first time.

None of the hole errors had anything to do with the product. All installer error (me).

They are on and I will take pictures of them in a bit and post.

Note: Wear safety goggles when drilling holes, no matter how much you think you are too far away from the drilling.

Five days ago, I was sitting on the garage floor drilling the pinch seam with the drill far away from my face. I normally always wear safety goggles, but the strap broke and I just said "heck with it" because it was late in the evening and drilled anyways. A piece of hot metal came flying from the drill and hit me in the left eye (inner eye part where most of our tears pour out on to our face and burned me there. IF I HAD MY HEAD JUST A TOUCH TURNED/MOVED EVEN THE SLIGHTEST TO THE RIGHT, I WOULD"VE BEEN BLINDED. WEAR YOUR GOGGLES

DAVID BE CAREFULL!!! Why did you not call or come down for the drilling, we coulda done it while Marty was finnishing the welds for the rear.

Glad you got them on, none of the holes I drilled gave you trouble did they?

I may not be able to cut a straight line, but I can drill
