My 2005 Liberty crd with 77,000 miles on it has started making a slight whine when the following conditions occur:
- 50 to 55 mph
- 2 wheel drive not coasting
- Left turn, even slightly to the left

If I coast it goes away. If I turn to the right it goes away. If I increase speed to 65 + mph it goes away.

The noise seems to be coming from the rear.

The gear oil was changed in the rear diff 2 years ago for towing... 75w-140.

12,000 miles towing since gear oil in rear diff changed. There seems to be a slight oil leak where the pinion shaft enters the differential housing. Only leaked an ounce in 2 years.

Any suggestions? Is a bit of whine normal, I never noticed this before but maybe I wasn't tuned in.
