Title says it all. Background: couple years ago I backed into a tree and bent the tailgate slightly. Up to that time the window glass was loose in the latching mechanism and rattled slightly. PO taped the U shaped bar that engages the lock in the tail gate.

After the tree contact, the glass latched more securely and no more rattle. Just lately I opened the back end and found that the latch mechanism will not engage. Alignment of the tail gate looks good. As far as I can see, either the hinges at the top of the window may have shifted (it looks like they have not) or something caused or allowed the latch mechanism to move inward so the U bar on the glass no longer engages it.

When I've finished this post I'll break out the FSM. However, if anyone has experienced this or has any idea what might be the cause I would be very grateful. It looks like the trim panel on the tailgate has to come off in order to see what's going on.

For the now I have an auto trans fluid funnel wedging it closed. ;)

Again, ANY advice appreciated.

TJ

NO replies. Well, I don't blame you; it was a stupid question. Anybody that can read a PDF file has all the info.

My prob with PDF is the two column pagination and jumping back and forth from one section to another. I was one page away from diagnosing the mirror switch and had a hell of a time finding the procedure. . . another 5 minutes to ring out a bad switch, $45 to buy a switch, and 15 minutes to install and button everything back up.

Glow plug replacement was a piece of cake. . . except for the intake elbow bolts. All thanks to Squeeto.

The flip glass not latching is going to get about 20 minutes more of my time. . . then I'll call a friend who has worked body and fender for twenty years and change.

tomorrow's gonna be another day
