so i had my transmission completely rebuilt... $1,600 which i felt pretty good about since most other quotes i had were around $2,000.
went to pick her up the dude said she was good to go. i pulled out and started having the same issue i had before i took her in. taking off in second gear and shifting horribly. took it back not 5 minutes later and he tells me TCM. so now i have to wait till tuesday for the part to get in. is this normal???

Sounds to me like he's guessing. What code or codes were in the system prior to all this 'work' starting.

I know for the 545RFE in the CRDs that the TCM has to relearn some stuff if parts inside the transmission are replaced. After service is complete they will use the appropriate scan tool to have the TCM do a quick learn to get it close. One can survive without it, but it can be a bone jarring experience for a bit while the computer is figuring it out.

Does this also happen in the case of the 42RLE? I have no experience with the gas Liberties, so I'm just tossing this out there as a suggestion. Fluid level and type are important too, but I'm assuming they would have gotten that right. Good luck.

Have you checked the fluid level? Did they clean the tranny cooler before they installed the rebuilt tranny?

Did they give you a warranty on the tranny? I'd be dropping by the shop first thing in the am.

I'm sure. However, if they didn't replace the sensors with Mopar parts, who knows if they're good. They might not have plugged something in, or not fully. The TCM might not be talking to it nicely.

Anything could be happening but the shop that did the work needs to make it right.
