I'm replacing the pads and rotors. I got the right side finished but the rotor is hanging up on the left. I can get it part way out, at least a quarter inch so I can see light between the rotor and the axle, but it's like it is hung up on something. What the heck is going on?

Also, in Youtube videos, they show turning the rear axle by hand when a car is on jack stands. I can't get mine to turn. Is it supposed to? I suctioned out the rear differential a few thousand miles ago and put fresh diff oil in it. Do I need a full diff. job?

answered this once and the answer is gone now
have you backed off the emergency brake shoes yet?
as far as the rear diff fluid it should be OK
but its best to take the cover off, drain / clean and refill

Wait a minute you have it posted three times now
which ones do you want deleted ?

I posted three times because I didn't realize that I had posted. I got error messages each time I submitted a post. If the other two messages are still here, they can be deleted.

Now what's this about backing off the emergency brake shoes?

Well, I got the rotor off, very carefully. The parking brake was hanging up on it. I'm off to the search function to see if I need a new parking brake shoe and how to do that. Thanks, tommudd.

Glad you finally got it off
NAPA should have the e-brake shoes
may also get the hardware kit since it usually rusts up

OK, the reason one of the brake shoes was springing out was the little pin that holds it in its clip had come out. What a cheesy system!

I've put my brakes back together and I have regular brakes, but no parking brake. I found the star wheel adjuster and it made no difference, so I guess it's a cable problem. What is more likely, the cable came off the left rear while I was working on it, or I need to adjust the cable from the hand brake handle? If just one cable is off or loose, do you lose the whole system?
