Post subject:  LED Light Bar

I was wondering if anyone has mounted a led light bar to the roof of their liberty? I really like the look of having the light bar but my liberty didn't come with one. So I was looking to just buy an LED light bar instead of the MOPAR light bar but wanted to know if anyone else has tried to do this. If so how hard was it to mount to the roof? Did you you a bar mount or bolt it into the roof itself? I have never done anything like this before and could really use advise. I was looking to order a TUFF LED 30inch light bar. Any advise on this topic is great appreciated!!

i'd love to have the renegade light bar but i dont wanna pay $600 or $700 for one so i figured a $250 led light bar would be the better way to go, but i just have no idea how i would go about mounting it to the roof.

well if you look around you can fine the rene bar for around $250. but without a rack i would say your options for the led bar would be drilling into the roof

i have been looking for a while and the cheapest i have ever found one was $575, i would love to find one for around $250.

I was able to find a light bar that mounts to the roof from CARR but they don't make a bracket for the liberty =(

If you're even the slightest bit handy, and want to save a few bucks,
you can fab your own light bar.

Cost me less than $60, and that includes having the end caps welded at a shop.
I bolted it to the existing roof rails....

... added four KC Daylighters (but you could easily do an LED lightbar instead)...

... a little custom wiring...
Image

... added a roof basket later...
Image

... total for everything, including cost of lights, steel, wiring and supplies, and basket....
less than $250....

i really like the look of that, thank you for sharing that with me. Any chance you have like specs on that or what you had to buy? i think thats the route im going to take, the bar looks great. Question - how is it bolted to the roof rails? also how long did it take you to make it?

Did the whole thing over a weekend. The main bar is 2 X 1 square steel tube.
I had 1/4 inch steel caps welded to the ends, then drilled & tapped for 1/4 X 20 bolts.

The brackets are 16 gauge steel. I got it at Ace Hardware.
They are bolted directly to the roof rails. Remove the outer half clam and drill a couple of holes through the inner half.
Again, I used 1/4 X 20 hardware with a large flat washer for reinforcement. Trust me..... it's solid!

Clean everything good with acetone, use a good primer (at least 2 coats), then paint the color of your choice.

If you scan the "Fabrication" area here in the forum, I believe I posted specs and a few photos.
