Please provide input! I am carless.
Car is currently located near San Diego.
I am 3rd owner, and of course, love this car...

Jeep liberty crd 103000 miles, replaced timing belt at 100k, also had to replace transmission at 95K(!!!), EGR at 50K, and quite a few other things.
I'm pretty sure the first owner did a number on it, considering all the work I've done on it.

I was driving on freeway on Thursday night, slight down hill, about 70.
Sudden loud knocking sound coming fr engine.
some power loss.
decelerated and exited to nearest gas station.

Minor technical diagnosis-
no debris in il, could not tell me whether there was fuel mixed in oil (!)
Codes:
P010 - low oil pressure
P0303- 3rd cylinder misfire
P1614 - ??

Any thoughts, as well as a 100% reliable and honest mechanic referral by San Diego, would help greatly.

Did engine lock up or continue to run?
Could be a broke off glow plug?

might want to repost over in CRD...love that torque

someone might know a good mechanic

low oil pressure is not a good sign

- the sensor is right at the pump so by the time it gets a signal there not much oil in the rest of the engine.

Hi-

It kept running, but underpowered, and very loud knocking sound!

I spoke with Keith fr Greendiesel, and he suggested it might not be a rod bec of the details i provided him with.
i can't remember what made him think that (possibly that there was plenty of oil in the vehicle and that when the oil was drained, it was "clean", well, black of course, but solid particles...this said the oil level was high for some reason.

The oil pressure sensor on a diesel is virtually worthless.

The couple of folks who have killed engines because of oil - lost it through the turbo return line - it drains the pressure and the lower bearings die from oil starvation - all while the sensor says the pressure is fine.

That's doesn't mean that it's your problem

- but having the sensor say it's low - is not a good sign.

If you've talked to Keith - he's got the best insight on what does happen to these beasts.

Can you turn it by hand without resistance other than normal compression?
