Hi, I've got a 2005 CRD KJ Renegade. The standard fit rock rails are looking grim from rust. I'm undecided if to try and strip them down and repaint them or just give up and send them for scrap, has anyone been able to recondition them and hand on heart say it was worth the effort? The rails are structurally sound and not bent and were easy to remove. Not sure what they would cost to replace in the UK, but doubt I'd bother with an OEM replacement. Think my Jeep looks better without them, if they were to go back I'd paint them matt black. Really appreciate any thoughts - many thanks. |

The OEM rails are not very functional. If you don't like the look, I would just leave them off. |

I removed my rails when rust started being visible. Had them blasted to bare metal. Plan is to paint w/Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, then several coats of a Rustoleum red enamel. This paint always worked great for me on other projects, should work on them. Probably will replace the fasteners w/stainless ones. |
