Looking into getting some lockers for my 2005 KJ RME and not sure if anyone has some that they like or know of a good brand or whatnot. Pretty much looking for any info yall got for me. Thanks a ton.

wrong forum section first of all

second of all, have you tried the search function? there are a number of previous threads that discuss the plusses and minuses of all the various options.

Search is your friend.

The general consensus is powertrax, or arb if you can afford it.

How is this the wrong section? Its under 4x4? Or did it get moved or something?

Anyway, yea Im sure tons of results would come up if you searched.

Most popular lockers would be the ARB which is a selectable locker and the powertrax no-slip. Thats what I have and it does purty good. Makes some noises sometimes and locks at weird times but does great other wise!

Ya, I moved it from the 4x2 section.

I still don't see how it was posted to the wrong section. The Powertrax website has a video (one of three) showing off a product in a 70's 2x4 pickup truck. Since when did locking a differential become exclusive to four wheel drive?

Just wonderin'.................

It's not 4x4, or truck exclusive, I ran one in Mustang drag car for years.

Well he did say "lockers" plural.... I would assume that nobody would lock the front axle on a rear-2wd truck, that seems like a waste of money. :-P

Locking can be done on a 4x2 just as much as a 4x4, but I think the question is probably more likely to be answered in the 4x4 section.

To answer the question:

DC LSD, Powertrax, ARB, Detroit, lots of models to pick from. If you have the money to spend, get a true locking differential (one with a dash-mounted "save me" button, like the arb air locker). Second on the list would be one of the clutch-locking variety like the powertrax, I believe. It's a true lock, but it happens automatically. Lastly you can get one of those limited slip jobbies for not too much $$.

Serious? Hardly ever, notice my little laughing dog signature? I was just agreeing that lockers aren't 4x4 or truck exclusive.

OTH, what is a "FULL" ARB setup running, over a $1000? Wish I could just put two spools in and call it a day, but the wife probably wouldn't like taking the kids to school like that.

I think a powertrax is the consensus for the money, and ARB if you got the $$$ Either one with a TruTrac front would be great.

My mistake I shouldn't have pluralized lockers because it is a 4x2 KJ that I have currently. Then again a simple search could have also helped me out in gathering information, but nevertheless thank you for the assistance.

Locked 4x2 ? "Thats just my game":

(500) reasons to go with powertrax no-slip

If some quirkyness and noise bothers you, then (2) reasons not to. :D

Ahh, I shouldn't have jumped to that conclusion either, then.

Inevitably somebody will make the comment of "well, if you want more traction, get a 4WD". I don't mean to put down the 4x2 at all, but especially since you have a new liberty (2005?), why not trade up to a 4x4? Not only will you get the other drive axle, you also get the low-range gears (yummy torque). A good locker could cost a few hundred bucks and a few hours of time installing. It's comparable to how some people say "get a lift before getting new tires, you don't want to buy tires for an unlifted and then have to go out and get new ones again once you lift". The same sort of thing applies - if you think you'll eventually want a 4x4, it would make sense to get that first before you put too much time/effort into modding out the 4x2.

But if you really want to stay with the 4x2, I'd love to see it locked and wheeling! I'm actually curious - can a 4x2 be lifted a lot higher than a 4x4 since it's not limited by the front driveline? Or is it the steering up there that would still limit it. I bet a 5" lift would look pretty menacing. :-D

I had never thought of that! I know you could get at least 4in easy out of the front.

After putting my locker in, its crazy where I can go in 2wd. The only thing I do not like is reving up the engine which heats up the tranny+ makes the engine work alot more. Since I do not have the Hd cooling, I always unhook the A/C on the compressor and turn the inside air on which make the engine fan kick on. That way I know some air is being pulled through the tranny cooler.

A great idea with a 2wd libby would be a bigger tranny cooler. Since you will always be reving it up on hills and stuff. Would keep it much cooler. The belt driven fan would be great also.

They make a bigger pan for the tranny, at least the 45 series.

The only limit I've really found is steering in the goop when the rear wheels want to go go go go.

Its actually pushed me around till i'm facing the other direction and I just backed through. Or bumped into objects like one of those bump n go cars.

I might have someone walk along side and pull me in the direction I want to go like a donkey.
