Ok, here's the issue. Yes, I posted this in the other section too, I just need help ASAP! The jeep won't start. You can "shift" the jeep without the key in the ignition, the steering wheel won't lock and the accessories stay on..ie, the radio. If I fumble with the ignition and gear shift, the shift lever "locks" in Park, the steering wheel locks and power shuts off but still won't start. I can hear power getting to the starter relay under the hood when the trying to turn the jeep over, but all it does is make a soft click and nothing. Doesn't even attempt to crank. How do I fix this? Is it the shift cable? Please help as I need this fixed by Monday for work! Keith |

What I would do first is check the battery. Is it fully charged? Are the connections at the terminals clean? I'd probably disconnect it for 10-15 minutes and reconnect and see if this helps anything. If you think it is just a shifter cable issue then you'll have to trace it from the console to the transmission and look for a disconnect. |

I put a jumper between pin 30 and 87 on the starter relay, the engine cranks but won't start. Could it still be the battery? |

What year do you have? Could be the Shift/bake lock solenoid? It's in the console. Maybe some shift solenoid in the tranny but then you should get a code. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/passe ... ssion.html |

2006. I opened the steering console, pulled the actuator pin and the metal tab around the pin was in 3 pieces. I bought a new actuator pin and switch and will see if that fixes it. |

Sounds like a likely candidate. Hope that solves your problem. |

I swapped the actuator pin, ignition switch and adjusted the cable while I had everything torn apart. Jeep fired right up after charging the battery. I appreciate the responses to my original question. Keith |

I just had this same issue occur over this last week in my 2006. It was quicker to get the parts for a collumn swap to buy me some time. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk |
