Seems to be a lot of talk lately on money spent on lift kits. I'd like to share my experience last year and exactly how much it cost, and hopefully it will help people weigh options. First off, I wanted something that would last so I started saving about a year before, and ordering parts as the money came in. The Ironman HD spring were ordered first, for a grand total of 298 shipped to my door. Next came the front bumpstops, which ran me 45 shipped to my door. (Teraflex) I had some hockey pucks kicking around, so they were free for the back. But realistically, what are they 2 bucks apiece? so add 8 bucks. I ordered front Bilsteins from shockwarehouse for 160 delivered to my door. And then decided on MLL's for the rear from rock auto for a Dodge Dakota for the extra crap I always's seem to have in it. Those were around 88 bucks for the set shipped to my door. I spent 17 dollars to have the old springs taken off and the new ones put on the front shocks. Which I understand may be cheaper than some of you have dealt with in the past. (Had to take them to a big rig shop locally, my mechanic had too small of a spring compressor setup.) I didn't go with extras in the front or rear for now. I just needed the front to stop smashing everything in the trail. Ended up with less lift than some, but it's at 21.5 all the way around still about 8000 miles in. Before alignment it was around 21.75 all the way around. Anyway, the alignment was 60 bucks. So total I guess it ran me 676.00. Of course I did all the take off and put on work myself. And in reality I replaced the brakes in the rear and the tires too while doing this. I left the only unknown quality part as the rear shock, as they are the easiest to swap out later of all the parts. However, they are doing as advertised for now. Mind you I spent a lot of time waiting for free shipping from places, or tracking down the best prices online, but it's an option . Just thought i'd share my costs with the group so people could have a comparison tool i guess. Take care all.

I think the biggest expense for some is the install. I'm paying close to $500 for the install before alignment. For me it's worth it because I know it's done right and if not they will fix it. I wish I knew more about vehicles to do it myself, but it's not an option.

Yes, you are right. Having someone do it can be expensive. You need to find yourself some more redneck friends that like to be paid in beer for wrenching :D

My lift was about $1200-1300 shipped to my door. OME springs, bilstein shocks, Al's a-arms, spacer plates and teraflex front bumpstops. Add another 20 for hockey pucks(rear bumpstops) and the Clevis lift. Then another $20 or so for the case of beer for my friend letting me use his shop and tools. Alignment was free(lifetime alignment from Firestone). Tires cost $700 mounted and balanced for (4) 245/75-16 duratracs. Got my KK around 4" or so before the alignment. Now I sit around 3.5".

Doing the install yourself saves the big bucks. I think my friend said he'd charge around $5-600 or so to do the lift. That's an additional lift kit lol. He watched and said it was easy to lift especially compared to the long arm kit he just put in a TJ lol
