Post subject:  Suggestions on Alignment

So I went to get my tires rotated at the shop who put on my lift. After they put the lift on I told them that the tow would be off by 2 and it needed to be fixed. Guy at shop says he would fix it at 500 miles after I brought it back for him to tighten everything up. This was while I still had my stock tires on. So I got the new tires on and took it in to have it re-checked. They had it for three hours and then came back to my work and picked me up. Said all was good and they put it on the alignment machine and everything was fine. So yesterday after 5000 miles of driving I go to rotate my tires and the same guy who put on the lift said the tires were pretty chopped and it need alignment done. He says their machine is down and I needed to take it to Sears. So Sears puts it on their machine and guess what. The tow is off by two and it has eaten up my tires. I have the Coooper's that are 18 tread depth at center tread. One of the tires after 5000 miles is down to 11.

Sears worked on it for two hours and still couldnt get the tow right on one side and the camber was a little off but it dosen't pull.

So..........since Sears made it "better" but I'm not sure how much. Could the lift not been done right and this is causing the alignment to be thrown off? Should I go back to the shop and demand some money or compensation? Any other suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

toe should be/ can be set properly after a lift. But the (camber I think) other one cannot. Geometry has change due to lift. And if sears is there trying to get it right, I think they cannot.

But that shouldn't wear tires in and of itself. The toe will. Hard to place blame on the shop since alignment could have gone out after a good bump.

You may be SOOL. Just gotta keep a closer eye on tires. (do as i say, not as I do ;))

I had problems with this too. The solution was to get it alligned with the stock size tires. I do not know why it matters but it does.

I waited too long to get my alignment after my lift. I think I put about 2000 miles on mine before I got the alignment. My front tires are much more worn on the outside than the rears, which I rotated just before alignment. The service guys at the dealership asked what brand lift I had on and told the Rusty's 2.5" Coil Lift. He wasn't sure what they would need to do for alignment and I told him to set it to factory specs and now when I turn to full lock, I don't get a weird feeling in the KJ while turning. Rides much smoother too.
