Post subject:  02 Renny Axle

i know this is a dumb question, but what sort of rear axle does the 02 Renegade have. Is it the Crysler 8.25 or the Dana 35. I'm getting a diff. skid but dont know which one to get. If anyone has a recommendations on which one to get please share

Hopefully, it don't look like this: http://www.thefergusons.us/kj/dana352.jpg

Notice the diamond stamped above the # 80763 and a diamond on the fill plug

See my post in the TEXAS area. If you have a Dana 35, the bolt pattern is diff (slight on 3 holes) from all others and nobody makes one over the counter to fit.

Most likely it is the Chrysler 8.25. To make sure, look for a green tag wrapped around the axle tube on the drivers side. It should tell you which diff you have and whether or not you have a trac-loc.

Most 02's are equipped with the Dana 35. Although not as strong as the 8.25 it is plenty strong for the KJ in all but the most severe usage. The Dana 35 does have more differential options such as the Detroit TruTrac which is not available for the 8.25. Also the Dana 35 can be beefed up with 30 spline axle kits from Yukon and others. All the KJ axles I've seen have the tag around the housing on the passenger side that details axle ratio, mfg., etc. If in doubt reference the picture that was previously posted.

I hope he has the 8.25

Yes they do have Truetrac for 8.25: http://www.detroitlocker.com/newprod.htm

The "liberty" DANA 35 has ONLY ONE option...Powertrax No-slip...PERIOD... because of the ring gear mounted tone ring issue.

No, you cant use the super 35 kits in this axle!!!

I've been at this for 4 years.

I would debate the strength issue too, but won't

I've never seen an 02 with anything but an 8.25

I believe the 35 that the1jferg has is better than the old "Cherokee35", if I'm not mistaken.

Out of the 2 35s which one is better? How many splines on the KJ's 35 axles?

27 spline

KJ 35 Pro's: Non C-clip bolt in, supposed larger ring gear and better gears.

Cons: Everything else

Non KJ 35 Pro's: Aftermarket stuff fits, super 35 kit if you want more than 27 splines, and everything else.
