I'm planning on putting either a locker or limited slip in the rear of my CRD. My power wagon is our main off road vehicle. Just looking to give the Jeep a little advantage over stock. In the past I've had pretty good success with Eaton and Auburn limited slips.

For those with lockers/limited slips, what are you guys running? Anything to watch out for with the KJ's?

Thanks

You have an 06 with traction control and ABS on all 4 wheels, so I think you need a selectable locker. I don't think LSD was offered in 06 for that reason. I'm running an ARB air locker.

I like the TrueTrac because it's like having limited slip at all times, but no clutches to wear out, no air to leak, and safe for driving in the snow. I have one in the front and soon to put one in the rear also. ARB's and the like are better for hard-core rock climbing for sure though.

I put an aussie locker in the front of my 4runner, and it's great off road, and in really deep snow, but has limited me on road when I wish I had regular 4wd, or a truetrac... It's getting a truetrac front and rear also

With traction control, a Truetrac would be ideal. They will help each other with tire slippage actually. If you have a wheel hanging in the air, you need some brake pressure to get the truetrac to hook up, and your traction control system will do that for you.

Liked the DTT up front but wouldn't want one in the rear.

The DTT works better in front apps.

Never mind - just trying to learn. Tru trac is going in the front of mine this weekend with plans for one for the rear next month( based on what I've read here and other's recomendations ). I value your opinions on things and if there is something better other than an ARB I wanted to hear about it.

A selectable for the rear is best, more so if your KJ see's a lot of daily driving. The DTT was more intended for a front application then rear.Never liked the idea of a LSD in the rear but growing up in snow/ice a LSD is the last thing you want in the rear, but great in the front.

I've had fully locked rears on ice and snow before, I know the whole rear of the vehicle trying to pass the front situation :ROTFL: . Thanks

So you think the TrueTrac would be dangerous on the ice in the rear? I've read that some thought it wasn't bad, but I have yet to buy it. Maybe I better reconsider. I was thinking that it would be nice for the steep hills I creep up though. Hmm, ARBs are too many things to go wrong for me. An e-locker would be nice.

Not dangerous just not my cup of tea.

I've had a ARB in the rear of my KJ(2 different axles) since '06 and never once had a issue with it.

alright, thanks for the ARB info. I guess they aren't the best known name because they aren't good. I'll have to reconsider an ARB.

Keeping it simple:
How about those Ox manual lockers, they look good to me, but has anyone had any luck with one? Carving a hole for a shifter doesn't sound so great though :?: I read mixed reviews about their electrical ones.

ARB has the best record of any selectable.OX keeps getting sold/bought every few years and there is mixed reviews on the electric ones.

I have an Aussie locker in my rear axel, I like it. Some don't mainly because of the audible clicking (Interior and exterior) noise you get from turning. Works well in the snow (Alaska) but does limit your ability in 4WD on road unless you NEED 4WD. If you turn in 4WD with the Aussie locker your tires will screech and drag across the ground and your axle makes loud popping crunching sounds and your vehicle lurches. But I am used to it.
