Hello,

Got a weird problem going on here, looking for some assistance.

'04 KJ, 170k, 4.10s, True Trac up front + frankenlift.

Was getting a BAD rumble/wobble through the steering wheel (think like hitting the rumble strip on the side of the highway) intermittently when hitting potholes/bumps in the road.
Swapped the passenger side CV out which seemed to remedy 80% of the problem. (swapped with an advance CV as napa wasn't open, measured them to realize they were the same size). Ball Joints, tie rod ends, sway bar ends and other suspension/steering components seem to be tight and in good repair. Wheel bearings were changed about 10k ago with timkens.

This rumble then disappears when slowing down/speeding up or straightening the wheel, really strange.

I'm thinking it might be the following, but not 100% sure
1. Driver's CV (original, with 170k on it)
2. Front Driveshaft CV (changed 2yo ago, ive got a spare in stock
3. missing anti-rattle clip on brake pads (i mangled on on reassembly not that long ago)

Intermediate shaft was replaced about 50k ago and heavily greased, checked when i did the CV and looked to be good.

Any Thoughts?

For the obvious but always overlooked....
Tire PSI??? Tire Mileage?
Have you been properly rotating tires?

Then I'd go through your list....

I checked pressures, they seem good, plus i heard it again last night, really seemed like the driveshaft head, i've had to change those things every 50k since i've got this rig. (hence why i keep one on the shelf)

Any thoughts on this?

The only way to stop the problem is to slow down to around 15 or so mph, then it will smooth back out when it occurs. Sometimes hitting another bump makes it go away too. I really cant figure this one out for the life of me.

If you think its the front driveshaft - pull it out and see if it solves the problem

i'm going to try that tonight, Wondering what else could cause this, The vibration is felt through the wheel as well.

Anyone else have a front driveshaft failure that ended up like that? Usually they get louder with increasing speed, not when hitting bumps.
