What a PITA job to do, I had no idea.
I need a front end alignment but my mechanic Told me that the boots on my tie rod ends were torn and needed replacement.

I found the only way to remove the tie rod end by spinning the tie rod pistons with a pipe wrench.

Is this how you guys remove yours?

I ended up replacing the rack and pinion and outer tie rods. Both inner and outer were shot and I had too much play with the steering rack.

Inner tie rods??? I'll have to look in the FSM to understand where they are.
I believe I'm replacing my outer tie rod ends.
I happened to have a used spare rack & pinion assembly to pull off the tie rod ends off of.
It's in far better condition than what's on my Jeep.

I used Release to dissolve the rust to remove the parts and on reassembly I'm lathering the replacement parts with Never Seize.

Yesterday I never did finish the job because I ran out of daylight. This morning I'll head back under my Jeep to finish the job.

Outers I pop it off and turn the end off counting each turn, reinstall the same number of turns and its close till you get it aligned.

Thank god I don't have to worry about rust down here like you guys have to deal with. I replaced my steering rack and outer tre's last weekend. It ended up taking me about 3.5hrs start to finish. I was able to Jimmy it out of the passenger side wheelwell. I didn't realize how bad my factory gear was. Now every bushing, joint, and link has been replaced in the front. As soon as I do the rear lowers, I'll be riding on a completely replaced suspension...
