Post subject:  KJ's and Jeep Jamborees

Why don't more KJ'ers here go on Jeep Jamborees? It seems most just don't do them. I can understand the West coast guys not going becuase they live so close to amazing places to go cheaply or free. But the east coasters? c'mon! it's soooo much better than running around Paragon.

I posted about the Catskills Jeep Jam coming up in Sept. here.

Where can I find info on the Jamborees, specifically ones closer to me? Is there a general website or would I just have to keep an eye and ear out for one?

Try jeep.com. From there you can get to the official Jeep Jamboree site.

That video is friggin awesome! It looks too hairy for my shiny new Rene but I'd take our '95 YJ out there!

I talked to someone at the NJ (Pine Barrens Jamboree) last year - that one is rated 3-5 - they said they have a couple different routes for all levels of experience.

Here's the link for info (we missed it this year - but maybe next year!):

I am going to the Jeep Jamboree this September. Specifically Jamboree #22. Note the KJ's in the "North Woods" photo!

The official site is WWW.jeepjamboreeusa.com

I'm glad you like the video! I put a lot of time into that. It was my first video. I learned a lot and now I'm ready to try it out with my family stuff

Pine Barrens can be VERY hard. LOTS of water. Deep, sandy water. Dangerous water.

But overall, there are usually trails that all will feel comfortable on.

I keep doing harder and harder trails at the Jams. I am learning A LOT and having a blast doing it! I'm not sure why, exactly, but overall it's much more fun (better people, organization, whatever) than just going to a park like Paragon for the day.

Glad there's some interest.

But doing the Jamborees gets reeeal expensive real quick by comparison to just paying the $40 for one day at Paragon. That's one reason I haven't gone to one yet. In fact, they are actually running a Jam at Paragon the same day as the monthly ride for August. SO if a person were to go there that weekend it would be much much cheaper to just sign up for the monthly and pick your difficulty level.

I'm with AdamisAdam (but I'm Adam too) (I shoulda made that my new handle here). There's something about the Jeep Jams.. I think it's atmosphere surronding them and the 'event' type feel.

How much is it, $250 a person? I know a lot of good modding I can do to my KJ for that money. A couple is $500. That definitely is a lot of good modding money. I can't see having to pay that much just for having guides, allowance on trails, and some munchies. Besides, a lot of people just can't afford it.

Should we call Moab, the KJ Jamboree or Liberty Jamboree (Lib Jam)? It is free of charge. You just pay for the park entry at some trails, camping, fuel, and your meals. No cost for guides. I trust Clint, Wally, and some of the others to guide us in the rough spots.

I love the JJs, nothing like getting hundreds of people together that share a common interest.

http://www.jeepjamboreeusa.com/

Yes they can be expensive but they have made some changes to the pricing. Adults are $250 but kids are on a fee scale based on age. The $ gets you a really cool t-shirt, 7 meals (or should I say feasts). Trail lunch isn't anything to write about but the breakfast and dinner - wow. Some of the JJs are able to open private lands that you'll never be able to wheel any other way. They also provide well trained guides that know local people that can fix most anything you might break. They may also have a repair shop right on site that you get you fixed up and on the trail the same day. Everyone is entered into a raffel for stuff from the sponsers and the local Jeep club usually has a raffle to raise $ for the club.

Are they for everyone - no. But I think alot of people out here would enjoy the experience and find it worth the $.

It is pricey, yes. And when you figure in lodging too, it's not hard to spend $1k with multiple people going.

But I think it attracts people that you wouldn't ordinarilly be able to wheel with. Not everyone can wheel with Clint and Wally (think of how long that convoy would be!).

Anyway, for a once a year addition to your wheeling itinerary, I think it might be worth looking into.

To each his own. Enjoy all!

I really enjoyed it when I attended last year up here on Bobcaygeon (Ontario). Aside from a big rocker panel dent, mangled skid plates, and a bunch if "pinstrips" (makes it go faster on the highway you know), it was really a lot of fun. Just to damned pricey to go every year. If memory serves me correctly we paid $400 per person to go to a three day event.

All you JJ veterans - tell me how it works :)

Each jamboree has a range of trail difficulties - can you go and just do one of the lower level trails? Or would that be a waste of time n money?

Would you take a totally stock Rene on one? Cuz I have no extra money for mods at the moment!

Given a choice - would you take a stock '95 YJ or a stock '05 KJ Rene?

I for one think it looks like a BLAST and I'd pay the money - at least once - to check it out!
Thanks!
Sue

You'll be running two different trails at each Jam.. one on Friday and one on Saturday. You'll be ok stock, but I wouldn't try anything higher than a 4 rated trail. As for the YJ or KJ, I'd take the KJ. The reactions you get are great and the more we get out there the more people will reailze these are real Jeeps.

If you go to the Jamboree site (god knows there are enuff links to it in this thread), each trip is pretty much covered in detail. Be sure to check out the FAQ's too. Most trips, only require tow hooks.

As for myself, I am going to say "I went". The trips run $250.00 /per and a camp site is cheap. Regardless, I want to experience it.

Oh yeah, if you really want to waste money, take a cruise.

OMG - You took the words right outta my mouth! This is actually the first new vehicle we've ever owned (couldn't pass up 0% financing) so my hubby is VERY protective of her!! I guess I am too - seeing that she's only 5 weeks old or so. But we're gonna do some local logging road and power line trails to get our feet wet.

I'd love to do a JJ with her - maybe next year - I'm sure we'll have a parking lot ding by then and the newness will be worn off!! LOL

Paid for or not, IT'S YOURS TO DO WITH AS YOU PLEASE. It gets dinged at the mall too, ya know.

There were two other KJ's, but not on our trails. They were stock. Garry R and I are lifted and armored. And we know how to drive them better than most of the other drivers there! Day 2's trail guide had no confidence in us. We were each other's guides more than anything.

You know that part in the video where the woman says "he made that look easy!" ? Well, that section the trail guide STRONGLY suggested I not take it. Then he also said I made it look ease. Well, I'm a lifted KJ with good tires. I think it was attitude more than anythign. There were sections that I walked up no problem that Rubicons locked, got stuck on. Driver and spotter!

Anyway, they are a blast, at any level in any jeep. Just TRUST your trail guides and HAVE FUN!

I'm glad you all liked the video.

Oh, and Matt, NO, there ain't nothing like this on Long Island. Not even close!
