| Post subject: | Another tire size question....245/75r16 vs 265/70r16 |
Ok so this has been asked alot of times but I'm up in the air about tires to get. I'm getting the Goodyear duratraxs before winter and I'm not sure what size... Its got a 2.5 lift and its a 06 CRD. Here is the diff in size ....................................... 245/75r16.....265/70r16 Diameter inches (mm)..........30.47 (773.9).....30.61 (777.4)........0.14 (3.5) 0.5% Width inches (mm)..................9.65 (245).....10.43 (2650)..........0.79 (20) 8.2% Circum. inches (mm)..........95.72 (2431.28).....96.15 (2442.27)....0.43 (11) 0.5% Sidewall Height inches (mm)...7.23 (183.75).....7.3 (185.5) ..........0.07 (1.75) 1% Revolutions per mile (km)....661.93 (411.31).....658.95 (409.450....-2.98 (-1.85) -0.5% 245s are not an issue to run size wise from what I read....265s being wider might be an issue, how much not sure some trimming of plastic from what Ive read maybe some can add more detail on that. Handling I can see the 265s being a nicer ride more stable by a bit 265 might be better in the snow which is a big deal for me as I tow a double sled trail all over Ontario. I've been stuck in my F'ing drive way before with it on the back too!! 245 I can see being better for mileage, how much? most likely not much... Any other comments?? fitment??? Anything else??? |

Stock wheels I assume? 265-70s are 3/4 inch wider, split that in half so 3/8 of an inch on each side . They may rub on the sway bar when fully cranked left or right. Other than that there is not that much difference, comes down to do you want a tire just a little wider or ??? 92.7% of people would not be able to notice the difference walking by I'd bet |

Stock wheels, just noticed that the 265/70r16 42 lbs are not LT tires, they have 16/32 vs 18/32 on the LT245/75r16s are 40 lbs. I'm thinking I'll get the LT 245 ... they will cost me 980 installed taxes etc OR Another option.... a buddy has 5 Mickey Thompson's baja MTZ 31x10.5x15 with maybe 5000km on them for $900 with TJ rims Question is will the TJ rims fit, and will the tires last long enough for me to be happy? Will I get 30,000 miles out of them?? |

Highly doubt they would work, first about the only 15 inch that will fit are aftermarkets like Soft 8s etc, plus that size tire you'll need to regear due to size / weight etc |

Highly doubt they would work, first about the only 15 inch that will fit are aftermarkets like Soft 8s etc, plus that size tire you'll need to regear due to size / weight etc not worried about re-gearing etc its a reflashed CRD and the tire is the same over all height as the 245/75r16s just a few lbs more then the Duratracs.... Being able to fit, thats something I didn't try. I mounted them for him by in the fall and I didn't have time to toss one on my jeep but I did take a picture of them beside mine. I might just grab one off him and try it and see. I've heard no very many fit as your mentioning.

the aluminum 15" tj rims wont clear the brake calipers if the crd braking systems the same size or larger than 03 kj brakes |

I have 265/70R16's on MOAB's. Frankenlifted '05 CRD. Only rubbing is from the pinch weld on full lock during reverse, but only on one side (prior owner accident pushed back the suspension on one side by 1/2"). Pinch welds in wheel well must be cut off/hammered flat. |

Going to get the GY DuraTracs, seems like the best tires for my use, hope they last a while, only getting 4 for now, doing timing belt, power steering line and some other stuff so going to cost alot. Looking forward to these new boots before winter! Always worried about the back end coming out while pulling a sled trailer.

Picked up 265/70r16 standard load. Waited to months for back ordered lt245/75r16 and gave up. Put them on as we got 8 inches of snow drove down on my worn out 225s and ripped out with my duratracs wow just amazing in the snow. 4x4 almost not. Needed. Haven't used it in a few days, just no need. Only had to trim the front little lip, cut 6 inches off in front of the tire and that's it. Has a day star lift that's two years old. Fixed my speed too, it was out 9 km/h at 100k now it's out 3 if that. Oh the upper ball joint clears the 10. 5 wide tire on stock rims but wow it's tight.

Duratracs do great in the snow, last two years I've hardly ever had to throw mine in 4 Wheel Drive. Now at 83,000 miles on them they are getting worn down some but still digging slinging snow |
