Two weeks ago I replaced both my UCA's with brand new MOOG units. Both upper ball joints were shot and making noise. Two weeks after replacement the Jeep was making no weird noises, and riding very nice. Then at work I drove over a bit of a rough patch (nothing I would have hesitated driving over before) and there was a noise after. It almost sounds like something is binding up a little bit and letting go, and making a snapping/popping noise. It does not always do it - it only seems to happen when I brake hard, and the weight shifts towards the front, or when I accelerate hard, and the weight shifts to the back. Most prominently, it makes the noise when reversing either direction with the wheel cranked all the way. 4x4 on or off does not make a difference. It's definitely coming from the front driver side, and I was able to push down on the Jeep in that corner while holding the UCA and make the noise. I can feel the popping/snapping in the UCA, but it could be resonating from anything I suppose. I loosened the two UCA to frame bolts, and UCA to steering knuckle bolt and re-torqued everything just to make sure something wasn't over tightened or too loose. The noise is still there. I've looked at everything I can see, and nothing appears to be damaged. I have no idea what's making this noise and it's driving me nuts. Could the brand new UCA possible have a bad bushing already? Anyways, thanks in advance for the help. Brendan |

Did you tighten/torque the bolts with the full weight of the Jeep on the ground? If not, loosen the bolts and do so. Gyro |

I thought of that as well, and I did it with the full weight of the Jeep on the ground... |

still trying to picture how you got your hand on the uca while pushing that corner down (hard enough as it is) with a tire in the way lol, rubber man!, or hemanrubberman do your front shocks happen to have a plastic shroud on them ? also, have you had a chance to jack up the front , preferably with a jackstand holding the vehicle, then jack up the lca closest to normal ride height as possible and then rotate the wheel by hand and see if the cv is clicking or if you feel any strange binding in the wheel rotation word of caution, please be very careful jacking up a vehicle with the front wheels turned, or jacking up a vehicle and THEN turning the wheel as it can cause the vehicle to move enough to fall off of a jack and or jackstand preferably, putting the vehicle on a hydrolic lift until the wheels are just off the ground and using a floorjack to raise the LCA to a normal ride height is the safest way to do it |

Just bought my 05 crd last weekend. The PO told me there was a suspension noise that he could not find. After driving it I am leaning towards the drive line. It makes a popping/snapping noise when I take off from a dead stop and sometimes when I come to a stop. Sometimes it sounds like a worn bushing but other times it sounds like a slip clutch snapping. Usually sounds like it is coming from the front but occasionally it sounds like it is from the rear. I was decelerating from 60 mph once and I felt a slight shutter, then today I felt a slight shutter when coming to a low speed stop. I haven't had a chance to crawl under it yet. Can you guys suggest some problem areas I should check first? |

I should add that the sound isn't continuous. It pops once per event, not several pops in a row |

Sorry for the absence guys, but I just figured out the problem. Stabilizer bar bushings. I just replaced them and almost every stupid noise my Jeep has been making is gone. I find it's hard to tell they are worn and I just replaced them because they are cheap and the last thing I could think of. |
