I recently came here with the same question, although the Skyjacker wasn't one of my choices. Through objective observation, I came to the conclusion that the Frankenlift was the best engineered package lift. While it may be more expensive than some others, I've read on this forum where posters have removed other lifts after being unsatisfied with there performance and replace them with a Frankenlift.

I have the Rusty's coil lift and wish I would have went with the Frankenlift. My springs are sagging so I have lost some of my lift. The other day, another KJ parked next to me that had the Skyjacker and it was clearly evident that mine is now sitting much lower. I going to try and salvage my lift with some spacers, but will eventually go over to the Frankenlift.

The Frankenlift originally had Skyjacker rears but they wore out too quick. They now ship with OME.

Frankenlift is one great lift. Don't just think lift, though. Think off orad control and flex. It's amazing how good it is.

Fabtoys: By the time you get the springs, shocks, bump stop, spacers, top plate, and rent a decent spring compressor you'll be so close to the selling price of the Frankenlift...just drive down to Colton and pick it up and save shipping if you want to install it yourself.

They all ride like a frickin go-cart anyway because of the short driveline.

Your gonna feel every bump too

and the seats suck

So you get what you get...KJ ride quality just ain't that of a truck or car.

You have to decide how much money you want to throw at it for minimal ability gain that many folks off set with bigger rubber and get stuffed to death.

You'd have to go to a 265 just to get 3/4 inch ground clearance over a 255 and then its a stuffin flex issue.

Its just math and your choice

Those are widths, but assuming you mean going from a 31" to a 32" tire, it is a stuffing issue. But it's the same thing with any truck, the more you lift the more you can fit.

I don't know about it being as bad as you say, I can't imagine it rides as rough as a lifted wrangler.

It's not a rough as a lifted Wrangler, Ferg just likes to complain.

FabToys: Get the Frankenlift you will be happy.

Jeepjunky33 here you go. This is the only place to get the frankenlift. http://www.boulderbars.com/ All J designed the lift with the help of kj west owners.

Oh BURRRRRRN :-P

Yeah, I never bookmarked the boulderbars page, I've just been typing "frankenlift" into google and clicking the link. It's actually the first (and second) result for "frankenlift". Although, because "frankenlift" is also generic term for a lift that is made of random parts, a lot of other people out there use the term to describe their own lifts (for example, link #6 on the search is an xterra owner who has a "frankenlift" of his own). I would almost like to see the Frankenlift get a name-change just so that it can earn name recognition and be more-easily distinguished...but it's already so established, if the name changed we'd keep calling it the frankenlift anyway, like the Frisbee and the RollerBlades.

I think some people might be confused because frankenlift isn't like other kits. You can't "shop around" for a frankenlift like you can for rustys, skyjacker, etc, because only one place makes/sells a frankenlift.

Similarly, fabtoys, you listed prices for parts for the frankenlift. You might end up with something similar to the "Frankenlift" but what you'll really have is the generic term frankenlift, meaning "a lift kit made out of a bunch of parts from different kits", not really the same lift that All J sells.

I'd like to know who wrote it. Nice article, very well written. Some great plugs for All-J's and LOST.

Keep this in mind. No matter what you do to your KJ in regards to lifting it, you WILL run into issues regaurdless of the manufacturer. These could be minor things, or major issues. I've spent $$$$ on CV joints, alignments, struts, and various other things since I've lifted the suspension. None of them is a result of poor engineering or an inferior product. They ARE all issues to modifying a vehicle outside of factory design. Factory struts fail because they are pulled further to compinsate for the higher stance. CV joints fail because the angle of the knuckle is now greater for routine travel, and gets "pulled" on during articulation limits. If you lift your KJ, and spend time off-road, you WILL incur additional expense...it's unavoidable. If you lift it, make sure you "routinely" inspect your cv joints for play, and have them repacked every 30K miles or less. Most importantly, budget for your future repairs. I do, and have no problem with it. It was my choice to alter my ride, and I use the $#@! out of it EVERY weekend. Toys break :D

Just my two cents, I had been talked into the Frankenlift for my Jeep. Unfortunately, I can't give personal experience because it isn't on there yet since I ended up needing a new computer and high school doesn't pay too well.
