Greetings,
My wife ran her 2002 Liberty out of oil. Dry to where the engine started clacking before she realized - the stick was dry.
I've put oil in it and it starts and idles fine and runs ok up to 2000 rpm.
Above 2000 rpm it starts to "clatter" and if you really rev it it really makes a bunch of noise.
It clatters most if you go above 2000 rpm and then lift your foot off the gas until the RPMs drop below 1800 or so.
3.7L V6
That said, I've put over 500 miles on it keeping the revs down and it has ran great and still runs/starts great.
I live in the mountains of Colorado and need to dive in and get it fixed before the snow flies.
I understand this is likely one of those "impossible to say without hearing it" things.. but does anyone have any words of wisdom on where to start? Is there perhaps a known "first failure" bearing in a 2002 that I should look into first?
I really have no idea if it is in the top end or bottom end.. sometimes it sounds like one to me.. other times it sounds like the other
