How does the evic calculate average mpg? Does the average span all the way back to when the reset button was pressed? Or does it only average the last 500 miles or something like that?

The reason I ask is that I haven't reset the average for a couple of tanks and the average had planed out at 24 mpg. Yesterday I took a 200 mile round trip all highway. I expected the average to go up but it went up a lot. It showed 30 mpg by the time I got home. That's usually what it gets on long highway trips.

I would expect that the EVIC would calculate the MPG from the last time it was reset but it's difficult to prove.
I doubt that it's smart enough to reset automatically when you fill up.

I have a hard time believing it averages since the previous reset. I drove 3 hrs down the NYC this weekend and started out at 26.7mpg with 3/4 of a tank, so it had used 1/4 a tank since I had last reset it. By the time got home I was at 34.5mpg. I have never seen my EVIC above 34.5mpg except for 1 time so I have a hard time believing that it was getting such good mileage during that trip that it was able to bring it all the way up from 26.7mpg
