Anybody here ever have a problem with their fan not turning on? Its a 2004 3.7 with the two fan re?lays. It seems like i've tried everything. I replaced the relays, fan, temp sender. Still nothing. Ive resorted to putting in a thermostatic temperature swith that turns on the fan at an adjustable temp but its hard to tell what temp its set to. Also ran it to a switch in cab that I can force it on AND wired in a green led on the dash to see when the thermostatic switch is turning it on and off. Jeep stealership wanted to sell me a new computer for 650$ LOL. Guy at the dodge dealer when I was there swapping some old sprinter atf for mopar atf4+ said they could prob. flash the computer...??? Gotta get this squared away before another hot summer. I was thinking to install a coolant temp guage and try to set the thermostatic switch to around 205 or so but just want it to be right |

if its a computer issue, you would save money by buying your own programmer. they I believe are priced around $300. I have not done a lot of time researching these. but, try a free fix. one weekend take off the battery completely + and - open the doors or "keep a light on" to completely empty the charge from the capacitors in the car. and if that doesn't work to you will need to go.

I'll give that a try. What about a computer out of the junkyard or would it not work cause the ignition keyhas a chip in it? |

pull the battery first. then if the issue is still there, look around for a replacement. if no luck with a replacement buy a programmer. |

Low end version of what would be needed................ http://www.aeswave.com/CarDAQ-Plus-Reprogramming-Interface-w-OBD2-Cable-p8809.html A '04 should still have the single fan relay located under the battery tray unless it's a very late build '04.They did not switch to the normal high/low relay system till model year '05. |

Woah. Thats a bit pricey eh? Mine must be late build. Has the high/low relay set up and i've searched for the infamous relay below the battery tray in hopes of an easy fix and its just not there.. I may just get an aftermarket coolant temp guage and set the thermostatic switch. At what temp is the fan supposed to kick in at? I've heard alot of different opinions on that. Also, ive got the thermostatic switche's temp reader pluged into the port that comes out from the waterpump and back to radiator. Is that going to provide an accurate temp for the switch or should I plug it into where the stock temp sender is on the waterjacket. |

Update- clearing the computer memory by unpluging the battery and draining the capacitors did in fact work! Restored all function to fan. On with a/c and on when it needs to be. I think i'll leave the wiring for the thermostatic switch in there just in case though. |

Restored all function to fan. good! pulling the battery is always step 1. checking fuses is 2. step 3 is everything else. I pull the battery at least 3 times a year to clear the ecu temp data and any other issues onboard. its worked like a charm every time I've done it. Ogh, and the capacitors are little buggers. Those don't hold their charge much past you opening the door. Now if there were those large suckers it would take days to empty them. |
