i have a 2003 liberty sport 4wd (the 6-cylinder version). last winter, i was using 4WL to get out of a snowy driveway, and found i couldn't shift out of it smoothly - the handle was tight. rather than smack the transfer case with a mallet like i should have done to clear out any junk that might have gotten in the way, i hauled on the handle and broke the transfer link cable according to the guy who looked at it (i've got a little car knowledge but not a ton). i thought they had a shear pin or plastic bushing to prevent that? anyways, now the dealer says that they don't sell the cables piecemeal, and you can only buy a new transfer case to get the cable, which is a ton of money for what's roughly a 30$ cable for other manufacturers.

i can't be the first person who's done this. anyone else know of a replacement that might help out? i can find link cables for other manufacturers, link cables for 2005 KJs, and replacement cases for the KJ, but none where it's just the cable itself for my model.

well i have broken my cable where it connects to the t-case, and acording to the dealer, you have to buy the handle and cable as a unit. If you did indeed brake the bracket that is connected to the t-case, you could go to a pick a part, and grab one there. The handle/cable is about $75 from the dealer.

you did this on a 2003 liberty? the later libertys have the handle and cable together, but i can't find anything for the 2003 liberty except re-buying the entire transfer case for 300$. i emailed mopar and they said that the cable doesn't even have a part number on 2003 models.

well i just looked it up, and you are correct tom, there is a picture of the brake down, but no numbers listed. car-parts, or the yellow pages and just call all the junk yards in your area. Also, car-parts only list those who want to pay for their service, so i would call even if they dont list them.
