Long time lurker here and I've read alot of helpful posts on here, but nothing that quite matches what I'm having trouble with. I have a 07 limited with 110,000 miles on it. About the past year or so, there has been a clicking sound from the front driver side at low speed (10-20 mph) that disappears as I get above that speed. Also, when I turn off ESP and play a little in the snow, the mid section sounds like clanging (like a spring in a metal tube) really loud only when I'm turning left or right. When I'm going straight and spin the tires in the snow, I don't hear it. It also feels like it's trying to lock the left front wheel in as well, but I can't confirm, since it actually doesn't kick it in, but that;s what it feels like. Kind of a stuttering in the front left side, like when you have it in 4wd on dry pavement. Last week I got under it and seen that the front drive shaft was missing the boot on the rear of it and I started to disassemble it and the transfer case oil started leaking out from the bolt holes. I'm confused since everywhere that I've read said that no oil should leak out. I had a 03 wrangler and took out the shaft all summer and never had oil leak. A couple of things to add, I don't ever use 4w part time, also don't use 4wd full hardly ever and have only ever been in lo when pulling one person out of a ditch. I'm confused since most people who say they have these problems with the front end say they use the 4w part time alot. Thanks in advance and sorry if I left any important details out. |

There isn't any oil that can leak out, you're fine in removing it and can run without it . The small amount of oil you may get could of been many things from grease breaking down and leaking back there from the CV or ??? But remove nothing to worry about. If the boot is gone, its a easy and cheap repair to replace the head ( CV) and boot |
